Have called John and left messages. No luck so far.

Here's hoping he gets it fixed soon.

Not sure what the problem is either, but it's misbehavior is fairly consistent.

Any time I click on a link, I get this error back:
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

If I click the re-load button on my browser (Firefox) after I receive that error, the link I initially clicked on loads.

It happens every time without fail on my end. Hope that's information that John can use....

I would do the standard things, check memory and check disk usage. See if there are an abnormal number of processes, look at I/0 wait averages, check the unix and webserver logs for error messages.

If all else fails, reboot!

Government or liberal interference?

DHS grabbed a bunch of websites the last 72 hours without due process. We are not immune.

Still uninterested in the Free Republic peer-to-peer concept? It might save our a&&. I’m building a backbone anyways, but per your instruction, I’m not going to affiliate with FR — unless you change your mind.

These are perilous, 1932-style times. We should be prepared.

U.S. Government Blocks Domain Names
ICANN Censors Roughly 80 Sites
Nov 27 2010, 10:26pm CST | by Robert Evans

Every URL you visit ends with a '.'. You probably leave it out, but your browser completes it for you. That '.' stands for the root servers. You can't make a DNS query without shaking hands with the root servers. These all-important servers are controlled by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers.

In case you aren't aware, ICANN was created by a Presidential Mandate. While they are technically a private non-profit, they work closely with the government and do not wear the pants in that relationship.

ICANN has the power to kill any domain on the Internet. Until recently, that power was mostly theoretical. Then this happened. Acting at the behest of the Department of Homeland Security, ICANN has censored around eighty websites. You can find a full list in the TorrentFreak article.

I’ve seen three or four different pages all morning. First one looked like the Latest Articles page in safe mode. Then a 404 error, and some 503 unavailables that are gotten around by persistent refreshing. Sometimes I just get a normal one.
It’s a lot like dating.

When you get the “temporarily unavailable” message hit the “refresh” key (usually F5) and the page will load. Or at least that has worked for me every time. I’ve read all the way back to Friday, including the outside links.

I keep getting the ‘Service Temporarily Unavailable’ page, but the weird thing is that a click or two of the ‘refresh’ button at the top and it works fine. This post, for example, required ‘refresh’ clicks each step of the way, but ended up posting okay. (Or, I shall soon see...)

Well, I am now going to try posting this and it may take a few ‘refresh’ clicks...

Threads will work properly once "haroldhotelmanager" is put in as a keyword to them.

Some may get the reference. Some may not. Besides, I'm not even sure I've got it right myself!
