A just-released Pentagon study on Dont Ask Dont Tellcovered live on all cable netsfinds overturning DADT would not cause any longterm problems for the American military.
A strong majority (of American troops surveyed)more than two thirdsdo not object to gays and lesbians serving openly in the military, said Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who introduced the surveys results alonside Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
According to the studythe largest ever conductedlooked at the impact of changing the militarys policy on openly serving gays and lesbians on unit cohesiveness, military readiness, recruitment and retention.
The study found 70 percent of troops surveyed believed repealing the law would have mixed, positive, or no effect, while 30 percent predicted problems. Opposition to ending DADT was strongest among all-male combat troops, including Army and Marine units.

I sure hope all these new homosexual recruits make good combat soldiers.
In a few years, we will know because they will be the only ones left to “hold down the fort”.
Everyone is railing against the wiki leaks...when you consider what Obama, Pelosi, Hillary, Gates and the rest of the minion in control of this government has done to the USA and the Military...it is a pretty lame event in comparison.
Good point.
IIRC, I remember reading something that said this survey was done AFTER it had been announced that DADT would be repealed, as if it was a sure thing to be done - maybe after the CA court decision? Anyway, seems like if they surveyed the troops in the context of the troops thinking it was already decided, it would not be the same result as if they were surveyed while it was anticipated DADT would be in effect indefinitely.
They never have given a rats @$$ what we think. I took that survey, and there was not one question about this issue. I know one thing, this decision will hasten my retirement.
Retain Mike,
Your representative must be something else...Here's few points that came to my mind (and probably yours also): 1) No distinction is made with regards to on or off base or on or off duty sexual conduct by the UCMJ. A military member is never really "off duty". 2) It's more than just the individual member's performance, their impact on the team is also of vital concern. 3)To help enforce the UCMJ and other rules, men's and women's quarters are segregated. Considering 14th Amendment equal protection rights, how can your representative not contemplate providing similar protection against sexual misconduct by members of the same sex? 4) Maybe your congress "person" might want to also discuss the rates of sexual misconduct by homosexuals versus heterosexuals.
Sadly, it's very clear your congress critter has, at best, a limited understanding of the UMCJ, does not care about the welfare of other service members and/or has no idea what he's doing.
It will only become natural for the homosexuals to hang out together outside of work, which will then lead to relationships and cliques based on a sex act.
My son is in the infantry, lives in the barracks, he and his buddies are together 24/7, there is no added dynamics of a sexual relationship. There is absolutely NO WAY relationships will be avoided!!!!
funny how fags will be MIA.
As you mention Private Manning it is interesting to note that this possible gender reassignment candidate that is being held for Court Martial for the secutity leaks is not being mentioned as homosexual by any of the media other than an occasional reference by Fox.
It is so hidden the even Mark Levin going over the Winky-Dink summary last night left it out — either intentionally or because it is sooooo under reported.
I doubt it was a valid survey - probably run by gays
Yep. Peter DeFazio. Mainstream Oregon.
Excellent question.
It is called GIGO = garbage in, garbage out.
I think that you are quite right.
You are correct.
NOTHING is stopping those who oppose this leftist death wish from conducting their own survey. Why not think outside of the box -access to the opinion of troops is no longer controlled by a gatekeeper when there is the internet. Someone should simply commission an online anonymous survey and then publish their own report...
Who on the right has the capability and the cajones to punch the homosexual agenda bully in the nose?
What of “blood contact” in battle. I suppose this reality is of no concern for the stupid PC politicians?
That sounds like a very good idea.
Maybe freepmail some people serving in the military right now, either as reservists or active duty.
“The study found 70 percent of troops surveyed believed repealing the law would have mixed, positive, or no effect, while 30 percent predicted problems”
As usual, the press is spinning the stats. Here is what a DoD release said:
“U.S. Army Gen. Carter Ham, commander of U.S. Army Europe, said the study found that 50 to 55 percent of people surveyed said there would be no major effect if the repeal passed, while 15 to 20 percent said theyd expect a positive change. Only 30 percent said repeal would have a negative impact.”

Notice how they try to make it sound like 70% are for the change. In reality only 15-20% could be considered “for” the change. Whereas, 30% were against it. The biggest group 50-55% were essentially neutral....they were NOT for it per se. So, you have 15-20% for and 30% against and a big mushy middle. That is NOT 70% for it as reported.
And that's only the people who actually responded, well less than a third of those who were polled, from what I understand. If you had an accurate and inclusive survey, my guess is that it's probably much less than 20% of those currently serving that support the repeal. People are afraid to say other, primarily because they don't want to upset the brass. It's the oldest story in the military.
Gees...and I was feeling bad about being represented by Upton. O:)
