Rep. Cantor: Popular parts of health law will be tackled in GOP repeal plan
The Hill ^ | NOVEMBER 30, 2010 | Christina Wilkie

Posted on 11/30/2010 1:31:44 PM PST by RobinMasters

House Republicans are looking to repeal the healthcare reform law and replace it with one of their own early next year without interrupting two popular parts the administration has already begun to implement.

They include a mandate that bars discrimination of pre-existing conditions and a stipulation that allows young people to remain on their parents' insurance plans until age 26.

Incoming Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said Monday that they would do this by passing a GOP healthcare bill at the same time as repeal efforts are underway.

Speaking to more than 100 students at American University, Cantor said, "What you will see us do is to push for repeal of the healthcare bill, and at the same time, contemporaneously, submit our replacement bill, that has in it the provisions [barring discrimination due to pre-existing conditions and offering young people affordable care options]."

I was unaware there were any “popular parts” to the Obamacare bill. I was of the impression the whole damned thing was to be repealed, reversed, eliminated, assassinated, wiped out, creamed, desecrated, whatever out of existance.

I don't understand the strategy

Yes, but that's because you don't understand how the Republicans have helped to create the situation we are in.

What Cantor means by "the parts that are popular" is, "the parts where we get to spend other people's money". The parts he is willing to do away with are the parts where the money is raised to pay for the benefits he wants to keep.

Ever since prop 13 started the whole corrupt tax cuts without spending cuts GOP game, the Republicans have been willing participants in a dance with the Democrats, and the only losers have been the shrinking productive sector.

OF COURSE Cantor won't repeal the whole bill. He'll keep the benefits, and cut the taxes.

What did you think a TARPer like Cantor would do?

Sounds like good parts to keep to me.

I think the pre existing condition is an issue that should be fixed.

If you have a pre-existing condition and then buy a plan that pays to treat that condition at a premium rate that does not cover the costs of doing so then what you have purchased is not insurance, it is welfare.

The House nd Senate republicans wanted the HC bill to pass, and they really don’t want to repeal the damn thing. They are mostly all socialists.

Why buy "insurance" when you are healthy when you can just wait until you are sick?

Tell me why Michele Bachmann is not Speaker of the House?

Now there’s a Republican with a brass set.

Why isn’t she the one meeting with the Usurper?.....She would smile and tell him his Commie-Death care is DOA.

Investigations into communist and un-American activity start when we assume power. Put some ice on that lip, Barry.

For months I’ve been comparing the pre-existing conditions element in the bill to the government requiring that fire insurers sell fire insurance on a house even if it was already on fire. Apparently that is a good analogy because Rush Limbaugh used it today.

Scroll down. There are a number of people posting here that do not understand the concept of adverse selection.

I think Cantor needs to be told: “This is Fargin’ War”!

No compromise. You won, now knock down THAT wall!

The war needs to begin within our own ranks. The "pre-existing condition" issue seems to be confusing plenty of FReepers.

“I think the pre existing condition is an issue that should be fixed.”

But then why not just wait until you KNOW you need it? A solution to enable portability makes snese to me.

“But companies shouldn’t be forced to pay for insurance for 26 year old dependents.”

The buyer pays for the insurance. If you add (or fail to remove) a 22 year-old, then you’re getting more coverage and probably paying a higher premium. And it’s a pretty healthy cohort. So I’m not sure it’s a net loss to the inscos at all.
