“We bailed out Wall Street, the people who helped cause this mess, at a cost far greater than help to those affect by it through no fault of their own. Why are so many so vociferous about unemployment benefits but silent on the WS bailout? “

I was never silent on that. It was despicable. And we should claw it all back with interest. And that includes all the hidden benefits that they have receive from the taxpayer. Such as borrowing our money at a ridiculous rate through the Fed. And that is just a dot in the bucket of peas of things that I feel we need to go after wall street over.

Sounds like 2 million who will maybe feel any job is a good job.
How many are holding out for their old high pay and benefits when the market no longer is paying that?

yeah, i’ll be sure to get rid of the illegals tomorrow so there are jobs for everyone! IDIOT!

If you are employing illegal aliens you are a criminal, nothing more.

Foo stams, gubmint housing, aid to Africa and various other kleptocracies, bailout of Wall Street, farm aid for not growing, war aginst drugs, federal employee salaries and bennies, UN, what am I forgetting? Out of sight out of mind for “compassionate conservatives”.

I’ve taken Master’s level courses towards an MBA

Is that where you learn about globalism and undercutting the US worker and how great the H1-b program is and the benefits of outsourcing?

I cannot get interviews for them because they believe you are overqualified and will split at the first sign of something better.

Exactly...so how do they know you are overqualified? You tell them when you submit your resume. I had to learn not to send resumes of my accomplishments rather downplay them allot...and 'gear my resume to the position' I was applying for. Then I got the interviews. In some cases simply filling out an application for I left no stone unturned.

You cannot bring a glorified resume to their attention...it will disqualify you from the start as easily as one who has no experience in the position they are advertising for. The idea is to get the interview...then take it from there...but you have to take time to structure your resume to the position and the requirements THEY are seeking.

The job I have now I layed way back on once I began. I learned and did what was required only....in time I revealed "other" skills as opportunity presented it...much to their surprise and delight. But even then I limit what I know and just do the job they ask of me. But I come home knowing the sense I put in a days work...and that is the greatest motivation to keep me moving on a better job.

It is difficult to downplay what you have worked for to achieve...but necessary to get a job lesser than you are qualified for...but you have to do what you have to do to get employed and get the cash flow moving again.

Just lie and say you have been driving fork lifts your whole life.

You are one clueless sod. Try lying on a resume or job app and see how far your get in a world where every detail is checked twice. You won't get hired if you lie. And that you even suggest lying says a lot about your character.

Why don't you tell us all what you are so brillant at? Perhaps some of us could enter that industry if someone like you can make it there.

Well I hope to God you never have to experience long term unemployment.

It might be nice for some of them... they'd have to dismount the high-horse they mounted upon descending their ivory towers and see what it's like in the reality that they've chosen to ignore while substituting their own.

We’re planning on a major stock-up run in the next couple of days. Food and other necessities. There are so many blobs of excrement about to hit the fan and who can say with any accuracy about timing. Better to be a few weeks early than 12 hours late.

The situation with Nork and China is very, very interesting. The best news and analysis I’ve found is on this site, that I check daily at least twice, on the “China is Risky” ongoing thread. The two mods (and some other people) check for news including English translations of Chinese sites.

I do NOT employ illegals...I was speaking of all the illegals in the country...you seem to think that we can just wave a magic wand if we so choose and they will all disappear.

I detest the entire unemploymnet insurance system. I would abolish it if I had my way. It assumes people are too stupid to save for a rainy day. And — it’s a self fulfilling prophecy because people think the Government will take care of them.

That is a frightening argument.
The "norm" has been in place for several generations now; people have contributed real money for decades in return for the expectation that some help would be there when needed. Many have not claimed unemployment ever ---- until now.

What are you going to tell them at this point? "Sorry, it was a mistake to set up an unworkable system when run by incompetent elected officials?"

Yeah.
That'll sell.

If nothing else, we must think seriously of "Elected Officials Accountability Act." As we are experiencing, incompetence can be tolerated up to a point. Qualification for office should go beyond a pulse an a bunch of votes by the even more incompetent.

LJ knows too....

Why are so many so vociferous about unemployment benefits but silent on the WS bailout?

Brilliant argument < /s >.
Wall street did not get bailed out because people were screaming for it. It happened because the political system was (is?) incompetent and corrupt. I am thinking of both parties, but maily the worst ones, in positions of leadership like Ted "the Hutt" Kennedy, Bawney Fwank and Chris Dodd. The people who are now bearing the brunt of the criminal incompetence were screaming not to bail out Wall Street and the banks. I know I was.

How could it have possibly been any worse than the total meltdown, homelessness and starvation for 20 million unemployed?

These threads always follow the same course:

1. Someone posts an article about unemployment extensions. Again, the Democrat controlled Congress which can pass anything it wants and bent every rule to get obamacare through, failed to pass the extension. Again the Republican's are asleep at the wheel in responding/getting it well known that they'd pass the extension with already appropriated funds.

2. The next 25 posts are from the hardest working, highest achieving, driven to succeed Americans ever to walk the earth. They all work 100 hours a week and never in their life would take one dime in socialist unemployment. Despite their long hours working harder than you and me, they find time to come here and tell the unemployed that they are lazy failures.

3. Now more geniuses arrive. Usually an economics professor and stict Constitutionalist will post a lecture on how unemployment checks increase unemployment and how we should abolish all but the Army. Also, they too founded their own business and saved 15 years of emergency funds so damn you if you didn't!

4. Now the fun begins. One of the apparently many unemployed freepers quotes the largest A-hole of the above group and the back and forth begins. It takes 2, maybe 3 exchanges for the big mouth to step over the line and then....

5. The passers-by/everyday freepers berate him and he suddenly stops responding.

6. Finally, I open my big mouth to wish everyone who is unemployed, underemployed, fearing unemployment, afraid of their bills, afraid of their debts, afraid of their health, afraid of their future all the very best for brighter days this Christmas and in the coming new year.

You misunderstood my comment.
Here it is using smaller words :

The average long term unemployed has a 1 in 6 chance of finding a job any time soon.

For those over 55, those odds plummet to 1 in 50 or worse.

There. Is that clearer?

I suspect that the original flippant comment of "I could learn a new trade in 3 months" was made by a clueless doofus not over 35. The new trade is next to making no difference for those over 55. Been there; Done that. In the past, a major step down was a possible solution. No longer.
