A controversial animal-rights group preparing to embark on its annual harassment campaign against Japanese whalers has stepped up its effort this season by enlisting the aid of ... Godzilla.
The swift and ominous-looking interceptor vessel has the moniker Gojira, named after the ferocious monster in the legendary Japanese film, which in English means Godzilla.
The 115-foot boat was launched by the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society on Monday in Fremantle, Australia, and has joined the larger vessels, Steve Irwin and Bob Barker, in Hobart. At midweek all three will begin their journey to Antarctic waters, where their crews will await the arrival of the Japanese whaling fleet.
Japan also means business. The whaling ships will carry armed members of the Japan Coast Guard to help prevent sabotage by the activists, according to the Japan Times.

I can’t believe they named a boat after Steve Irwin
His wife is an eco hippy. His father quit her leadership several years ago.
Armed Coast Guard from the Japs, can you imagine if they shoot a Sea Shepherd and make them a martyr?
WTF on that boat??? That’s not Godzilla...that’s the cheap imitation from that Broderick flick. What an insult.
I have enough faith in Japanese technology to believe they can sink this Godirra—and every POS on it—without leaving a trace.
It already is, it is called "Whale Wars" on Animal Planet, have pan_yan add you to his ping list. He does all the html stuff.
I am anti whaling, but anti anti whaling so some of these threads get heated.
I'd actually like to see a whaling ship sunk personally, but that is just my opinion.
Sea Shepherd has announced that they have these vehicles but they had an extra vessel last year parked in Africa which the Japs didn't know about and it led to Sea Shepherd's most successful campaign. So I am wagering that they have two more vessels.
They have huge funding and they also won a contest on eBay which led to donations going to them via eBay.
Millions upon millions have been raised this year for this campaign.
The Japs may have the Coast Guard but if they shoot and kill one of the hippies, they will create a martyr and then you will have a lot of people siding with the hippies.
This vessel is registered as an Australian vessel so for the first time Sea Shepherd has a vessel flying the Australian flag so if the Japanese do try and sink Godzilla it could lead to a naval response from Australia.
It already is. “Whale Wars,” on Discovery. You can watch it and see these eco-nuts act like badasses trying to intimidate the Japanese by throwing grease and stink bombs on their boats, and then cower like the suburban sissyboys they are when the Japanese fight back with flash-bangs and water hoses.
If these dorks aren’t careful, the Gojira is going to go the way of the Ady Gil...rammed by the Screwyou Maru due to the Sea Sheperds’ poor boat handling. Except that the Gojira is big enough to damage the Japanese ship as well, in which case I hope Sea Shepherd gets sued for every yen they’ve got.

So you support piracy?
Thanks on the “Whale Wars” show. I’ll find it and watch. Eating whale meat sounds disgusting to me. I see the Japanese eat it raw as sushi.
I have to pull for the eco-underdogs here. Stopping and harassing whaling is OK by me. Drilling for oil and natural gas everywhere is not
So you support piracy?>>>>>
The right kind of pirates...yeah.
Please let me know if you want on / off the Whale Wars Ping List
Please add the keyword 'whalewars' to applicable threads.
(I'm not going to ping the whole list to this thread since there have already been a couple about the new boat and I'm at work, so I don't have it handy.)
I am declared anti anti anti whaling by Japan and Norway. They should grow up and find new hobbies. What the eco-hippies need is a Chinese port, Chinese registration and a Chinese flag on their vessel. Then the Japs will be too chicken to mess with them
please put me on WW ping list
Good. I hope the Japanses Coast Guard shoots the bastards.
I agree.
Wasn't Irwin also?
Maybe not as extreme.
I would say hoorah.
