Meghan McCain: Who You Calling a Blue Blood, Sarah?
Daily Beast ^ | Meghan McCain

Posted on 12/01/2010 8:19:17 AM PST by Bigtigermike

Last week Palin dismissed the Bush family as “blue bloods” but Meghan McCain, who admits she's one, says the media star is a playing a dangerous game that will tear apart the Republican Party. Welcome to the echo chamber! This week's (or possibly month's) latest rhetorical talking point is "blue bloods." And guess what? In the way it has been used I am probably considered one and so is the entire Bush family, not to mention countless others. And who else would deliver such a catchy media talking point than, yes, Sarah Palin. The reference to "blue bloods" was made after former President George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara said in an interview that they thought Mitt Romney was essentially the man to watch in 2012, followed by an extra zinger from the notorious straight talking former first lady Barbara Bush who said she thinks "Sarah Palin should stay in Alaska." Sarah Palin responded on the Laura Ingraham radio show saying "of course they think that, the Bush's are blue bloods."

I actually had to Google what the meaning of "blue bloods" was, although I could surmise that it was some kind of knock against education and coming from a family of some success. Yes, in essence that is what this statement meant. Families that work hard and achieve a long line of successful people are "blue bloods" and thus, she implied the opinions of said people are jaded and elitist, even if that family lineage has a long history of public service and leadership within Republican

blue blood = establishment

.. as in, “Sit down and shut up. We know what’s best for you, and we will do what we deem best whether you agree or not.”

Only difference between establishment RINOs and demonRAT leftists is how they would divide The Pie and who they hang around with.

My mother is a “blue blood.” New England heritage. Father was richer than god. The best schools. White glove parties. “Help” at Christmas dinner. She spent time in college and in Boston with people who’s names you would equate with “Boston Brahman.” I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard that the Kennedy’s were “prohibition” money. My Grandmother actually referred to blacks as “Darkies.” When she was in the nursing home, she thought she was back at the Breakers, and tried to tip the nurses and aides all of the time.

My Mom’s family pretty much disowned her when she married my country bumpkin Vermont Farmer Dad. She did not care. But I grew up around these people.

I know Blue bloods.

Meghan McCain is no blue blood. She is the nouveau riche. Buffy ain’t fat, baby.

The true blue bloods are laughing at McCain for her pretension. They are also horrified that the rest of the world might think McCain is one of them.

I believe you are right. It seems these uh...ladies are purposefully trying to engage Palin in a low level pissin’ match.

You win by ignoring them.

If Meghan McCain didn’t have her last name, she’d be nobody.

I disagree! Even with her last name, she is still nobody!

It may be apocryphal, but I recall a story about some European nobleman reacting to a perceived insult from a commoner by elaborately reciting all his notable and prestigious forebears and their historical importance and belittling the commoner's mean birth.

Supposedly the commoner's response was along the lines of: "You are indeed a descendant - but I am an ancestor."

They just don’t seem to get it -

we don’t care if they are “elite”, have a long line of wealth and education behind them. We have no problem with people of this “class”.

We DO have a problem, though, when these people see it as their duty to impose their “superior vision” on the rest of us.

Jefferson was elite. He was not elitIST.
Use him as your example, “blue bloods”.

True that.

I get a kick out of the “blue blood” phrase. Crustaceans have blue blood. Vertebrates have red blood. Insects have white blood. : )

The obligatory fat Meghan pic.

Her comments are just to poorly thought out to bother commenting anymore. She did pic the right blog to write on. The Daily Beast pretty much sums her up.

Mehgan’s HDL/LDL ratio is too way out of whack to be a blue blood. Her bad cholesterol appears to be off the charts.

You know John McCain's daughter?

Blue Blood is a term referring to royalty and succession by birth. Could not be more appropriate than as it applies to Miss McCain. She is, of course, dead wrong. The term does not apply to people who work hard for their achievements. Quite the opposite, it is derogatory of those who by are privileged by birth.
The Kennedy's come to mind. The Bush's are another clan that has a birth right mentality. Pelosi is a case study. These are people who are completely insensitive to the impact of their self importance and arrogant superiority. We owe much of what is wrong with our country to these elitists.

This McCain girl needs to get a life. She makes all of these nutty statements about people of accomplishment while she is still wiping her nose on orders from her mother.
