Palin, I knew Reagan. You're no Reagan.
CNN ^ | 12/1/10 | Ed Rollins

Posted on 12/01/2010 12:06:59 PM PST by pissant

Editor's note: Ed Rollins, a senior political contributor for CNN, is senior presidential fellow at the Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency at Hofstra University. He is a principal with the Dilenschneider Group, a global public relations firm. He was White House political director for President Ronald Reagan and chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

(CNN) -- The first date is over. Not much happened. President Obama and his new governing partners, the House and Senate Republicans, met at the White House along with the Democratic leaders and discussed the unsolvable issues between them.

Even though they made no decisions and both sides went their separate ways, they agreed to start negotiations on extending the tax cuts. That in itself is the beginning of a positive process. They actually talked to each other and talked of a plan for action.

As with real dating, both sides have to get along or nothing will happen. So maybe this situation has more in common with an arranged marriage.

The American voters are the substitute parents, and they want this marriage to work or at least to be civil. And we, the voters, hold the shotgun.

Rollins is slime, wasn’t a big deal in getting Reagan elected or re-elected, and his personal life isn’t good either.

Sarah Palin has had far MORE experience, to make a run to be president, than most candidates in recent history.

What foreign policy experience did Reagan have?

That really made me laugh, almost choked on my sandwich. You are funny!!!

Actually, it was Reagan's arch-republican son, Michael, who said he, "...saw Dad when I was watching Sarah Palin..." and, "...to those who see these troubled times, and wish The Gipper were still here; he is. It's just lately we're calling him 'Sarah Palin.'"

Piss.

What does someone who writes for CNN know about politics?

Really, FRiend .... you should read the guy's bio before posting such silliness.

Ed Rollins, a senior political contributor for CNN, is senior presidential fellow at the Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency at Hofstra University. He is a principal with the Dilenschneider Group, a global public relations firm. He was White House political director for President Ronald Reagan and chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

I'd say he knows a hell of a lot more about politics than either of us does.

"Then, after being selected for the VP slot, the smears began. Some of the ugliest vitriol I’ve ever seen in politics, all false, were advanced non stop."

In other words, she withered under the intensity of the national spotlight. You're unintentionally proving the point that she's not ready.

She was run out of Alaskan elected office on a rail. And yet, people think that this "tough" woman would fair any better in a national campaign. She has demonstrated ZERO ability to weather the onslaught that would surely come her way. It's fanciful.

"It’s funny."

You're right. That's her biggest problem.

Mark Twain said, "Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand". It was true when he said it, and it's true today. To too many people, Sarah Palin is a joke, a caricature. She's not going to recover from that, not anytime soon.

I really can't imagine any politician, living or dead, turning down 6 hour long campaign commercials where one could craft their image, reintroduce themselves to America, and get paid for doing it. It's quiet brilliant. Of course I don't hold my breath waiting on “Mitt's Massachusetts

RINOs and Dems don't have to do it...the MSM/Hollywood does their PR for them, makes them and their families human beings, while doing the opposite for Republicans.
So if you are not a multimillionaire, haven't inherited millions, don't have PR firms and friends in DC and Hollywood...you must make things happen for yourself.

Then be told it is unseemly by your supposed political allies? Good grief.

Like I said. and I want to repeat this because I think I shocked myself by making an important point.

We have hundreds of tv channels now. HBO, Cinemax, a bunch of news channels. old shows, new shows. all of this 24/7 365..

You have to find away to break through the noise. Connect with real people. It is about PR.

Bud Selig refuses to modernize and do more modern PR work in baseball. As a result, baseball is declining in popularity. A sales group a few years ago wanted to advertise a Spider Man movie by putting a graphic on all the baseball and a bunch of old timers in the commisioners office rejected it. you would have thought it was a scandal.

PR is so important. these folks need to step into the 21st century

We can't win with that kind of shallowness.

You're right! We need someone who the left won't make fun of, someone who has proven to be willing to "reach across the aisle", someone who has worked hard to see that healthcare and citizenship are available to any who want's it, someone who's not afraid to raise taxes if they need too, someone who went to a real school, someone who doesn't sound like a hick, someone who looks frumpy if a woman or a silver haird statesman if a man: we totally need the exact same person we ran last time! I mean really, haven't we had enough rumblings from the plebes!

Sara Palin isn't fit to be President because her voice is grating and she's pretty. Other than that I'm having a hard time seeing her deficiencies. It was the highly educated, politically astute, societal elites that drove the ship of state directly onto the fail beach, can't see how Palin or some other moderately competent person who has actually spent most of their life outside of DC could do any worse. (I'm admittedly totally throwing out her association with McLame)

You wan't shallow how about choosing our candidates based on how nice the media and Democratic pols are to them.

What is it if not fear? Why would so many spend so much time trying to break the woman down? There are far more writings and rantings in the negative about Palin than there are remotely positive ones. She hasn't said she's going to run for Dog Catcher, yet every single day there are loads of negative articles. If it ain't fear, it's misogyny.

And for the record, most of the people "on the right" writing bad things about Palin aren't really "on the right". They're for the most part establishment socialist fascist swine. We need something very very different to happen in this country or we're sunk. Someone with big giant brass balls who could give 2 sh!ts about diplomacy or hurting feelings. It's time to put the rubber on the road and damn the feelings or retaliation from the freedom haters. People need to learn that this is America and when your here, you need to learn the damn rules. Rule #1: Don't f*ck with me if I haven't usurped the rights of another. Rule #2: see Rule #1 and shut the hell up.
