North Korea could carry out shelling attacks against mainland South Korea before the year-end, the Tokyo Shimbun newspaper said on Thursday, citing an unnamed source knowledgeable about the North who had spoken with a North Korean official. (snip) The North would target Gyeonggi province in northwest South Korea and would also try to damage South Korean warships in the Yellow Sea, the daily reported, citing the source, who it said spoke with a North Korean official after the North shelled a South Korean island last week, killing four people.

That can only mean places like Munsan Town, Paju City, south side of the DMZ in that area just north of Seoul. Man oh man, they would open a can of worms doing that.

It would explain the posturing, wargames, build up of forces by the US/ROK/Japan.

Can’t deny that the ROK/Japan/US response to this latest DPKR provacation is different than the past. No running back to the bargaining table.

One would hope the DPRK brinksmanship game fell flat on its face this time around. What a shocker that would be to them. For they have gotten away with it for 50 years.

Of course, they are liable to push even some more in the next few weeks, still thinking they can get the concessions from the US/Japan/ that they usually get.

This is a very bumpy OJT for Kim Zhong (I write it like they pronounced it on Radio Pyongyang) Eun. I hope it is freaking him out and giving him a case of the Hershey Squirts. Oh do I ever.

Perhaps it’s cause Arabs and other Muslims don’t blend in very well in North Korea.

They aren’t short, malnourished asians... and they don’t worship Kim Jong-Il as the one, true god.

So it’s really easy for the North Koreans to identify them, kill them, and put their meat in their labor camp cookpots.

I think the major hindrance of a retaliatory response right now is the proximity of Seoul to the dmz, and the rather large North Korean army that could capture it quickly if they believe a full scale attack is taking place against Pyongyang.

The U.S. is not really in position right now to defend Seoul aganist something like that. But over the next few months, I would expect to see stories about getting supplies and weaponry to South Korea trickling out as we go. I imagine South Korea is painfully aware of this and is holding back for now.

Why don’t muslims blow up stuff in North Korea?

They know better. The Norks aren't like us.. they don't tolerate muslim mischief.

Could happen, but I don’t think it will happen for some time. Not until next year, when things have calmed down again and South Korea will be less likely to hit back strongly.

I read the same things back when the Cheonan was sunk and look what happened. Nothing. Then when the tension eased and tough talk ended, NK knew it was safe to hit again.

This just hit the breaking news section. I hope it’s just a bluff. I do tend to agree it would make more sense for them to wait awhile before stirring the pot again.

If North Korea shells the south again, we should offer the Norks some canned sunshine in exchange.
