Dem McDermott: 'Little Baby Jesus And All This Stuff'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 12/02/2010 5:35:47 PM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Was Jim McDermott mocking Christmas? View the video and be the judge. On this evening's Hardball, the left-wing Democrat [but I repeat myself] from Washington was making the case for the extension of unemployment benefits.

MCDERMOTT: This is Christmas-time. We talk about Good Samaritans, the poor, the little baby Jesus in the cradle and all this stuff. And then we say to the unemployed we won't give you a check to feed your family. That's simply wrong.

Chris Matthews, interestingly, took umbrage at what he clearly took to be McDermott's mocking tone.

>>And then we say to the unemployed we won’t give you a check to feed your family.<<

Yeah - after 99 weeks who needs that stupid “work” thing when you can just start and end your day with a 40-ouncer and let the money continue to flow in.

Policy differences aside, I am truly ashamed of the McDermotts, Pelosis, Graysons, Weiners et al

They’re poor “representatives” and an embarrassment

McDermott, the psychiatrist, refused to say “under God” in the pledge of allegiance and struts around in the gay pride parades. Atheists and perves love the man.

A lot of those unemployed people have working spouses, so it’s not like they won’t have any income at all.

Two years should be plenty of time to figure something out.

I really doubt anybody is gonna starve to death.

Dems are such drama queens.

Nothing McDernott says or does will ever effect his Senate seat. He will pull 80% of his district even on the worst year

"We won't give you a check to feed your family????????"

You've got to be kidding me. What's the magic number, McDermott? 110 weeks? 150? Do I hear four years? What IS that magic number when we can finally say we have done enough? It doesn't exist, does it?

Anyone who is still on UE after 2 years doesn’t and shouldn’t particularly plan on a gifty Christmas.

This guy is a waste of skin, but I don’t think he was mocking.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could build a nice, big fence around the 7th District? Or maybe just a nice, big fence around Jim McDermott?

Electrified and topped with curare-doped razor wire, of course.

Just how much are these unemployment checks, anyway? Anyone know? I guess they are based on how much you earned at your job, but what is the max amount? Anyone?

(I collected unemployment for two weeks back in the 90’s. My check was $125 a week, and I felt guilty as hell about it. Money for nothing. I guess things have changed since then.)

I hear you, but he does also happen to be the guy who made himself an atheist hero by accidentally-on-purpose omitting “under God” when he led the Pledge on the House floor.

It varies from state to state. In New York, it is $425 a week right now.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: OK, well Christmas isn't just "that stuff," by the way, just to correct you from my point of view. I don't know what yours is, congressman, but I wouldn't call Christmas just "that stuff." It happens to be my favorite day of the year for every possible reason, including religion.

You were right. You were right about me. Tell your sister... you were right.

I don’t have a problem with feeding their children, but stop calling it unemployment and call it what it is Welfare.

After 99 weeks it isn’t an unemployment check any more, It’s welfare.
