Good. Now for a Commission on what really needs to be done — the dismantling of the welfare state.

Rest of article:

Seven of the 18-member panel voted against the proposal, including three Republican congressmen, three Democratic congressmen and one Obama appointee. Without last minute support from three Democrats, the commission would have lacked even a majority.

If it had moved on to Congress, there was a zero chance of the deficit plan passing.

Yep. Commission was tasked specifically NOT to look at Government Size reduction as means for deficit reduction.

How about eliminating a few Departments or Agencies or "Regulatory Boards". Or perhaps the elimination of a few Commissions!

Nothing will be done on the deficit - because it is not causing Americans any real pain yet.

The FED is printing money to keep entitlements going. The economy sucks, but unemployment checks keep going out to those 10-15% of the working-age population, and everyone else has jobs. Food prices are increasing, but not drastically. The big, blue States are bankrupt, but reckoning has not come yet.

Give it time. Probably not all that much time, given yesterday's news from the Fed.....

I've read where cotton is expected to be up over 30% by next summer. Corn, wheat, beef, milk, etc., are sure to follow....

Yep. The job killers are the first that should be on the chopping block. Once we start allowing job creation we can start cutting the entitlements.

The emphasis of tax policy is on the high end.

That should be reversed. All earners should pay tax on income.

If the income model is wrecked beyond political rehabilitation, a new and different tax that cover all earners should be enacted.

With the hue and cry for smaller government and less taxes, the only solution is more taxpayers.

That has got to be our goal— the fate of western civilization hinges on that effort.

Look at the people in this line trying to get free money to pay their heating bill... Wearing expensive coats, handbags and jewlery. Do you see how far this has gotten?

Good! As with most appointed "task forces," or "commissions," there was a purpose for this one.

On another thread on this subject, I posted these observations:

Why must we suspect that buried somewhere in this so-called "plan" is a provision which preserves and perpetuates Obamacare?

"We, the People" must not allow Republicans to be "snookered" by retreads Simpson and Bowles into signing on to some devious device which "tinkers" with Obamacare, but preserves its basic premise.

One must suspect a President who multiplies and escalates spending "the People's" money, and that of future generations, while, at the same time, appointing a "Commission" to reduce deficit and debt.

Is it not more likely that the "Commission" is just another way of diverting attention away from real cuts in spending, creating a flurry of activity for image making, and results in perpetuating more of the same?

Just asking.

On that thread, another poster noted that Paul Ryan spoke of just this aspect of the matter.

Yep, a typical government "commission", as big a laughingstock as the "9/11 Commission". The goal is to give scumbag politicians cover, nothing more, nothing less.
