In governor's meeting, Haley asks Obama to scrap health law

South Carolina Republican Gov.-elect Nikki Haley challenged President Barack Obama over his landmark health care overhaul Thursday in a candid, personal exchange in front of Cabinet members and newly elected governors from across the country.

In an exchange that White House aides didn't dispute, Obama rejected Haley's request to repeal the health care bill...

"I said the people of South Carolina and the small businesses of South Carolina cannot afford the mandated health care law they had passed," Haley said after the meeting. "I told him that our economy is already in a tough spot, and our budget cannot sustain the mandate."

With only four Democratic incoming governors joining 18 Republicans and one independent, Obama acknowledged that the Nov. 2 elections hadn't gone as he'd hoped.

WTG, Haley!! I’m liking this woman more and more. GOP is getting a great bench here with this new crop of governors who understand economics and have the will to act in their states’ interests.

Yup. She is actually doing what the people asked her..and voted for her to do. Obviously, the Kenyan Klown will say no but the effort was there.

For a freshman Governor to ask the President to abandon his signature policy achievement is the definition of chutzpah. It’s also a declaration of war!

I haven’t gotten the whole story yet but our gov elect Tea Party favorite Paul LePage (Maine) was there and from the news reports he just fawned on Obama.(In the campaign he said he’d tell Obama to “go to hell.”) I’m hoping that there’s another side of the story as I’d be really disappointed if he didn’t make some strong statements at the meeting about the over reach of the feds on health care and regulations.

There are many ways to tell someone to go to hell. It doesn’t have to be to their face. Reserve your judgement until you see concrete results.

OMG. Governor, check under your car before starting it in the morning.

His Royal Kenyanness is not accustomed to being challenged on such things as budgets, laws, and the ability of his subjects to carry out his whims.

Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

Brilliant. Great start Nikki! No sitting down and shutting up. We hear the phrase “Man Up” a lot these days. But it’s the women speaking up. For a new Governor to go face to face with the a sitting president and object to his most precious “achievement” is pretty awesome.

Of course saying “go to hell” to his face would be unprofessional (i.e. something one would expect Obama to do) but I was hoping for at least a post meeting statement that supports opposing the actions of the Obama admin. Again, I have only heard some media reports where LePage commended Obama for his pragmatic approach or something like that.

Is this the meeting with the governors where Obambi laid down the riot act and firmly but oh-so-sugar sweetly demanded that if they have a criticism or disagreement with his policies the governors were to go to him rather than to the press? Yeah, right. Last I heard, the governor's are not in his chain of command!

thanks to the good people of South Carolina whom finally elected a Governor whom happens to have some balls and a backbone to say NO to Obama. Wonder how many other newly elected governors will step up to the plate and go head to head with Obama.

The last I heard there were 34 States that have filed legal briefs to be exempt from the healthcare mandate.(may be I am mistaken though).
