Liam Neeson angers Narnia fans by suggesting Aslan is Mohammed

Liam Neeson has caused controversy by suggesting that Aslan, the Christlike character in C.S. Lewis’s Narnia books, could represent the prophet Mohammed or Buddha.

The actor who voices the lion in the film adaptations of the books has angered some fans of the stories, who claim he is distorting Lewis’s intentions to be “politically correct”.

Aslan the lion features in all seven Narnia books, guiding children away from evil and harm and encouraging them to do good.

Lewis was clear that the Aslan was based on Christ, and once wrote of the character: “He is an invention giving an imaginary answer to the question: “What might Christ become like if there really were a world like Narnia?”.”

There are specific rules for the Religion Forum. They are spelled out on the Religion Moderator’s profile page. The available choices are to follow those rules, or to avoid posting on the Religion Forum. What’s so hard about that?

If you look in the Unabridged Dictionary or “Great Insults from Shakespeare,” you’ll find some really rude things to say without being scatalogical or profane.

Think about the “broken window syndrome”.

It’s a film that many Christians want to see successful.

Only if it's good. I plan to take some of my kids to see it the week after next (week of the 12th?). I haven't seen a movie in the theater since 2007; must remember to take earplugs.

Marginalize the site into a small prudish ‘cult’ if you will.

When did encouraging communication in standard English become prudish?

It's very simple to figure out:

If you read "The Horse and his boy" you will unmistakenly understand that Alsan represents Christ

Consider "Turkish Delight" in "The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe"

Liam is a very good actor, but evidently hasn't read the books at all.

the previews look great. Loved the prior movies. Well done.

I have not read the books.. I like to be surprised at the movies.. but the issue is often MY SURPRISE is that I can;t follow everything & so many viewings are what I chose.

Well, most here know I am a movie nut

I have found I enjoy most of the music from the epics

ALTHOUGH sound is not a primary response for me & it takes the 3rd or subsequent viewings before it kicks in

Inception was the exception.. the music hit home in first showing (although the rest of the movie was pretty fuzzy)

For a lot of us here on FR, foul language is not the "norm".

I’d consider his opinion if Aslan took the little sister for a bride.

I haven't been as 'profane' here as I have in the past, anyway. I'm older and more mature now, you see. The problem is that this site has become even more intolerant of such acts as before. It's not just with casual pseudo-swearing, either. It seems the thread police are always on anyone's case for the slightest infraction of conformity. I really wouldn't have cared if the comment was deleted, but to lock the whole 'doggone' (I substituted a 'non-harmful' word there) thread? That's carrying it a bit too far, in my opinion. Those other posters there didn't contribute to my 'delinquency', you see.

Why can’t he simply STFU and act?

Why can't YOU express an opinion without the F word?

When did encouraging communication in standard English become prudish? With the exception of an occasional joke, can you point me to where I haven't done that?

Neither is it for me. Can you point to a situation where when I wasn't joking that I've stepped out of those boundaries? I only Pseudo-Sweared, anyhow. It's not like I dropped a bunch of F-bombs in the middle of a Church Sermon or something. This was a thread about Liam Nesson, not a prayer or anything. I wasn't even as bad as Obama's preacher.

I am arguing to the position you have taken regarding language allowed here. I am not interested in your personal posting history.

The vanity I linked (above) was in response to my noticing increased tolerance on this board for profanity and vulgarity. I think we can do better than the DU/kos cesspools.
