The story isn't particular detailed, but it's very likely he was in some capacity working for FDNY. I don't find it unbelievable that McCain's behavior was as depicted, but that doesn't change that the US Senate exist to deal with larger national issues. Taking care of Mr. Gilmartin is very likely the right thing to do, but there are many good reason for handling business at the lowest level possible.
I know 3 of “these people”. Each worked the cleanup after 9/11. Each loves the thanks and accolades of being a 9/11 hero. Each blames every sniffle, depressed day, allergy on the city’s “failure” to provide respiratory masks and the horror of the event. Each is salivating for their share of the law suit payout and retiring with a disability, tax free pension (pd, fd). Each claims to be a victim of the city’s negligence. Wants to be hero and victim at the same time. Makes me sick. They dilute the true victims of 9/11.
I wonder if people remember the payouts to the relatives of those killed in the WTC. I’ve heard many people say Americans were killed there but my understanding was/is there were people from all over the world working there that day. I forget how many Brits were killed. The government paid out millions.
Thank you for your service pal, I'm sure you were well compensated for your efforts. I'm sorry for your health problems, maybe it was your diet or perhaps you smoked for 40 years that you and others like you are having problems.

I wonder if those who whine about compensating the 9/11 responder victims....never say anything about the BILLIONS we gave the airlines after 9/11? The US govt basically paid the lawsuits the airlines would have had to pay
I am sure some of the more Liberal Socialist Globalists here on FR will have some crazy reason why it was OK to bail out the airlines for BILLIONS with our taxpayer money
