Congressional calendar endangers repeal of 'don't ask, don't tell' (The HORROR!)

Congressional calendar endangers repeal of 'don't ask, don't tell'
By Philip Rucker and Ed O'Keefe

This was supposed to be the year that the law banning gays from serving openly in the military would be repealed. President Obama and the top Pentagon brass made clear their distaste for "don't ask, don't tell." Polling suggests the nation has moved past it. The Democrats who control Congress, as well as some Republicans, are ready to overturn it. And last week a final potential obstacle was removed when an exhaustive Pentagon study found little risk in undoing the law.

Yet with the lame-duck session of Congress hurtling toward a chaotic close, the effort to repeal the policy is in peril. A divided Senate panel heard stern testimony Friday from the Marine Corps commandant and the Army chief of staff, who warned against incorporating openly gay troops into combat units now serving in Afghanistan.

But the biggest barrier is the calendar. Although a repeal bill passed the House in May, and there appear to be enough votes for it in the Senate, there are only two weeks left in the lame-duck session. Other priorities, such as negotiating a compromise on extending Bush-era tax cuts, have consumed congressional leaders.

This lameduck (and the damn press) had better get a grip because the lameduck has no business passing or even dealing with important issues like DADT and START to cite two.

Don't Ask-Don’t Tell should be Ask-Then Expel.

Maybe Obammy wants to repeal DADT , and the “ top Pentagon brass “, trying to kiss up to this marxist unAmerican pos’s rear end say they are “all for it but the vast majority in the military do not want anything to do with this liberal social experiment.
Just say NO to preverts.

Well, Obama decided to pass Porkulus, car bail outs, healthcare, etc. before dealing with this. The gay in the military issue had to go to the back of the bus.

And now that the liberal Congress is on its way out, it may not happen at all.

Lots of liberal dreams are dying as this liberal Congress is set to see their time expire.

There was liberal euphoria on Nov. 4, 2008, as the election of a liberal president, backed by beefed up Democrat majorities in Congress, would right all of the social ills and bad Republican policies of the past.

The liberals will have to watch re-runs of “The West Wing” to get their fill of a liberal president governing and applying liberal policies and being accepted by the masses. Their reality sure didn’t turn out too well with Obama and this Congress, did it?

If this is repealed soldiers will find out that other soldiers are gay. That’s why this is bad. Now they can only guess.

You know there's a chance the Dems know that they don't have the votes or the time to get this through the Senate and all of this is a publicity stunt to appease homosexual activist. But make no mistake, although this might be the last chance for a legislative repeal of DADT for sometime, there are going to be more legal challenges. This will likely come down to a Supreme Court ruling.

I do not think so.
The homosexual agenda is being pushed as a normal “lifestyle”.
It is NOT a normal lifestyle.
If you do not think so then, How do you think you’d react if you came home to find some old queen trying to seduce your teen aged (dumb ass) son?

I predict that not only will the Tax Cuts be extended, but after that logjam is compromised away, the rest of the liberal agenda, including the repeal of the DADT policy, will also be passed before this lame duck session has concluded.

It’s a travesty, but it will happen, IMO.

Possible, Probably, BUT
many times the supremes have ruled in favor of national security when it comes to the military.
In this case the libs have pushed a poll that is just not true and any one with thinking ability knows it.

This bunch of “ military elite” are simply butt kissers.

There is an error in my link.

http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/r?ammem/mgw:@field(DOCID+@lit(gw110081))

Please notice the last two )) are not in red. Load the page as is, when you get the error message, go to the URL window and add the missing )).

The page should load.

If not, go to this web page,

http://americanfounding.blogspot.com/2010/02/general-washington-on-gays-in-military.html

goto this paragraph,

“In a report dictated apparently by Washington and copied out by his staff,”

click on the word “report” as it appears to be a link to the earlier page.

If an actual secret referendum in which all service members were invited to participate were to be held, I doubt there would be more than 20% in favor of repeal.

Such a referendum would be very easy to set up. Unlike the civilian world, every member of the services has a photo ID so there would be no chance of voter fraud.

I doubt it would take more than a week.

It will never happen though. The politicians and the political brass know damn good and well that while a majority of the serving members may be reluctantly willing to tolerate homosexuals, they would vastly prefer not to have to.

There were no gays back then. Nor were there Muslims, pirates or enemies of the state.

There were no gays back then.

Oh, there were homosexuals back then, but due to the laws on the books, they had to live their lives with the greatest care and discretion. It was a life or death matter.

I Hope NOBODY sits back and decides this report is any cause to think about other things deemed more important. I will be sending e-mail to the members of the Armed Services Committee
even those not from Colorado. May not do any good but will keep me occupied with something other than what might prove
more dangerous personally.
