Hidden behind the save-the-world rhetoric of the global climate change negotiations lies the mucky realpolitik: money and threats buy political support; spying and cyberwarfare are used to seek out leverage.
The US diplomatic cables reveal how the US seeks dirt on nations opposed to its approach to tackling global warming; how financial and other aid is used by countries to gain political backing; how distrust, broken promises and creative accounting dog negotiations; and how the US mounted a secret global diplomatic offensive to overwhelm opposition to the controversial "Copenhagen accord", the unofficial document that emerged from the ruins of the Copenhagen climate change summit in 2009. Negotiating a climate treaty is a high-stakes game, not just because of the danger warming poses to civilisation but also because re-engineering the global economy to a low-carbon model will see the flow of billions of dollars redirected.
Seeking negotiating chips, the US state department sent a secret cable on 31 July 2009 seeking human intelligence from UN diplomats across a range of issues, including climate change. The request originated with the CIA. As well as countries' negotiating positions for Copenhagen, diplomats were asked to provide evidence of UN environmental "treaty circumvention" and deals between nations.

Can’t believe we wasted hardball political capital on such a stupid goal.
But we’ve been told that there is no conspiracy to push the global warming taxes on the public.
Political capital, investment capital, and natural resources all wasted because of a Socialist meme that the West is consuming too much of the world's resources (and must PAY by not even drilling it's OWN oil, other nations get it instead).
In order to hammer out a global government, one needs the unsolvable crisis that impacts everyone that only the global government can manage. This justifies a global tax which is the linchpin of any global government. The international communists have been working on this for decades. They brainstormed the global warming pseudo crisis up in the late eighties and were off and running. Obama (who has admitted he views himself as a citizen of the world vs. a citizen of the USA) was the perfect guy to bring the plan home. That is why so much diplomatic energy was spent to “make” it happen even though the climate is no longer cooperating with the fake crisis.
Al Gore and Obama have failed their mission. The climategate document dump did them in and we may never know who saved us from this strategic plan to lock us into a world government.
I’m finding it more and more difficult to be outraged by this Wikileaks stuff by the day.
As far as I’ve seen, it’s all a lot more humorous than dangerous.
spying and cyberwarfare are used to seek out leverage.
using the state dept for spying? Now what is wrong with that? Oh wait...
The Guardian - after all this time it's still committed to a completely obvious falsehood.
And I’m doubly glad that a Republican congress is stepping in before Obama can give away another trillion to all the developing nations ‘damaged’ by global warming. This kind of nonsense has got to stop!
US manipulated climate accord. If anybody didn’t know that they need a smaller rock to live under.
Our own State Dept has claimed gorebull warming to be a national security risk, so that’s probably what they’re talking about.
The more Wikileaks crap that comes out, the more it just seems like TMZ for diplomats and people who think they matter.
My goodness!!! Who would have thought that “international diplomacy” WOULD NOT resemble the corrupt horse-trading, threats, bribes of favors, self-interest, back-stabbing and vote-buying that goes on all day at the U.S. Capital. /sarc
How funny.
