Study Finds New Evidence of Warming in Antarctica (2009)
New York Times ^ | January 21, 2009 | KENNETH CHANG

Posted on 12/06/2010 5:29:43 PM PST by palmer

Antarctica is warming. ...

“We now see warming is taking place on all seven of the earth’s continents in accord with what models predict as a response to greenhouse gases,” said Eric J. Steig, a professor of earth and space sciences at the University of Washington in Seattle, who is the lead author of a paper to be published Thursday in the journal Nature.

My headline: New Study Find Antarctic Warming Limited to Peninsula.
Here's the new study on the left and the old one on the right:

Blog post by the lead author: http://noconsensus.wordpress.com/2010/12/01/doing-it-ourselves/

I eagerly await the article in the New York Times announcing this new study.

Good news!

Especially for the poor scientists who are stationed down there.

The study is almost a year old. It just took a long time for the paper to run the gauntlet of the (so called) Climate Science establishment efforts to quash it.

why is it whenever it's hot in the Arctic or Antarctic it's proof of climate change, but if it's cold anywhere else that's just “weather”.

Europe could be covered in a mile of ice and they would still be screaming “global warming” as long as the temperature at the polls was 1 degree warmer than the average over the last 100 years.

Ummm, most liberal ‘science’ studies are lies.

Here's the image that went with the NYT article:

Same as the cover of Nature magazine:

Of course there's no bias at Nature or at the NYT.

At any given time SOMEWHERE on the earth the temp is higher than normal. That doesn’t mean any more than at any given time SOMEWHERE on the earth the temps are lower than normal.

Will someone please enlighten me as to what a professor of "Earth and Space Sciences" actually studies? What are his true areas of expertise?

We used to have geology and its numerous complex specialties, and astronomy, ditto. The professor's title sounds like it's right out of a socialist study group specializing in fuzzy politically correct double-speak. It appears designed to baffle the taxpayers and mislead journalists while elevating said professor's expertise far beyond actuality.

If you look hard enough for something you just know has to be there you will usually find it. That’s hardly “science” though.

What are his true areas of expertise?

Statistics is not one of them, his methodology was incorrect.

Oddly enough, now that there is a new study that refutes the one in the headline above, the NYT is suddenly silent.

Exactly. Anyone that understands the definition of mathematical average expects individual readings to be above it some times, and below it others. Actually hitting the average on any given reading (with any appreciable level of precision) is fairly rare.

The same notion applies to localized groups of readings and trends in long-term data.

Sorry to not have the authors of these quotes....

“No such thing as a stable temperature in climate history, it always changes.”

“Frauds convince us that nature created a stable and delicate balance in climate and now humans have upset it.”

These studies must ignore history to make their point. The earth has been very hot and very cold and will become very hot and very cold again. (I know “very” is not a scientific term) The only effect that some humans have on climate is the hot air that comes out of their pie-holes!

He’s arguing that a change (if even true) of .2 degrees PER DECADE is something to worry about?

When has global climate ever remained static for any length of time? When?

I especially liked the reference to that other imaginary occurrence “the ozone hole”.

What is the alleged problem with the hole?
“It allows more radiation through the atmosphere and hurts people....”
How is ozone made, so as to heal the hole?
Radiation strikes water and creates ozone.
Oh!?!?
So it’s a self healing process?
Yes, in 3 to 5 week cycles.
