Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said if his children walked the streets of Phoenix they might look awfully suspicious to police. His wife, Columba, is from Mexico.
Harvard professor Robert Putnam told the same crowd of city officials from across the country at the Denver Convention Center on Saturday that his grandchildren might likewise draw suspicions. His daughter married a Latino man, he said.

That is why he isn’t governor of Arizona.
Ugh! Another Harvard "genius" who doesnt understand what the law says.
Jeb Bush is a liar !
This is the guy whose daughter is a crack addict, right?
...which is why he must never be allowed anywhere in GOP politics going forward.
Is the man an moron? Unless his kids committed some other crime, they wouldn’t be “picked up.”
Stay out da Bushes!!!
Stay out da Bushes!
Jeb Bush shares a spot on my list of people... if they are the GOP nominee in any election I will vote 3rd party.
The problem is not lack of govt programs. It's the lack of interest in "integrating." You cant assimilate people who have no desire to assimilate.
Ok enough said on Jeb.
Nice how he can’t look beyond the race of his own wife, so we have to have millions of illegal immigrants. Is his wife an illegal immigrant? No.
We are being destroyed, these politicians are elites and cowards. You have to be an imbecile to not understand illegal immigration is not the way for any country to have immigration.
“if his children walked the streets of Phoenix they might look awfully suspicious to police”
...are they running with a fistful of money in one hand and a gun in the other? They’d go to jail for armed robbery. Legal status would be proven with an ID you bonehead. I’m part french and german but am dark skinned. I’ve been asked if I have any hispanic blood. Lots of us have dark skin you ninny!
Jeb is an open borders RINO like his pal Connie Mack the IV who’s grandpappy “fixed” baseball games. These RINOs are sickening.
Thanks for the confirmation jeb but we already knew that you were an idiot.
Time for the moderate Democrat Bush family to follow that other group of northeastern elites, the Communist Kennedy family out to the pasture.
They can chew their cud and moo at each other over the fence, but stay away from the American political scene.
When is this family going to SHUT UP AND GO AWAY????
Not only the law doesn’t say it.
You have to be a wiimped out idiot to be on the Mexican border, have millions of illegals pouring across, and actually think it’s a big deal to be aware most of these folks look like - Mexicans.
Uh yeah. I think his son also had a criminal problem with the law that was more minor, Hey Jeb - Florida is broke and unemployment is through the roof thanks to illegals. On you watch to Jeb. POS RINO.
That’s why he’s not in the running for President and never will be.
At least not as a Republican...
Then he's a stupid jackass spouting off about things of which he knows very little. Go away Bushes...you people have worn out your welcome.
He's so clueless, he doesn't even realize how stupid that statement is.
Illegal immigrants, by definition, are criminals.
....daughter a crack addict....
Low blow. I thought no personal attacks allowed here.
You're absolutely right that they shouldn't be picked up just because of the way they look. Of course that has nothing to do with the Arizona law. The law specifically states that the initial contact between law enforcement and the individual has to be based on some other legal purpose, and "the way they look" is specifically excluded from such legal purpose.
So since they can't be "picked up just because of the way they look" and we've eliminated that BS strawman, what about the law? OK, so they are stopped because of some infraction or suspicion of some infraction and it turns out they aren't carrying any of the forms of identification that they are required by federal and state laws to carry, should that reasonable suspicion that their status may be illegal give the authorities probable cause to inquire about their status in this country? ABSOLUTELY. So now, so sit down and shut the hell up!
Note to Jeb - if you want to run for POTUS as a Republican, you have to first pretend to be a conservative, and do your best to hide your RINO side. At least that’s how your Dad and Brother did it. Seems you have it backwards.
The only way these La Raza pimps can gin up broader opposition to the Arizona Law is to lie about it.
Note that while the headline cites Jeb Bush, the quote about kids being "picked up" because of "the way the look" is from some other idiot named Putnam.
“That is why he isnt governor of Arizona.”
That is why he won’t be president of the US.
What an idiot. 42% of the population of Phoenix is Hispanic and 24% are foreign born.
Well, now, let's look at that. Over the years I've seen plenty of folks right here on FR who will brand a person "illegal" based on nothing more than their names, or because they look hispanic. If you want to talk about folks who can't "look beyond the race of his wife," that's a pretty good place to start. It's a real phenomenon.
He’s very happy in Florida and I hope he’ll stay there.
Whay are these people smiling? If you think providing 99 weeks of jobless benefits to someone is bad consider this group. Some of these folks have had a lifetime of benefits provided by the government. Many of the people pictured have never worked at a real job a day in their lives. Several have had businesses that would have never existed if not for their family government connections. Or they have had their businesses bailed out by the government.
Maybe we should stop welfare for the Republican Blue Bloods? Along with welfare for the Kennedys, the Clintons, the Obamas and any other familys that think they deserve access to the Treasury just because they can breath.
Go away Jeb Bush. Go away and take the family with you...
We all wish the unqualified, Jeb would stay in Florida where his pandering is welcome.
Let’s remember this traitorous talk when he wants to be elected.
Bush is married to a Hispanic and he is pussy whipped.
Heee heee heee. Me too.
Maybe so, Jeb, but as long as they didn't commit any kind of crime, they'd be fine under Arizona law.
Good grief, I'm glad this moron has decided not to run for Prez.
Read AZ SB1070 you putz! Now SHUT YOUR PIE HOLE!
I really don’t know what you are talking about. Some person posting here on FR is not a former governor who may run for president. Nor are the Arizona law or the actions of the Arizona police governed by some comment here or elsewhere.
I don’t plan to accept the destructiveness of massive illegal immigration for the sake of Jeb Bush’s fantasies about his wife and kids, or because you don’t like a comment posted on FR.
Illegal immigration is an absurd abomination to any nation. I don’t care if the illegals are red, white, blue, purple or whatever.
No More Political Dynasties!!!
“This is the guy whose daughter is a crack addict, right?”
“TALLAHASSEE, Fla., June 18 Gov. Jeb Bush’s wife, Columba, was fined by customs officials in Atlanta for failing to declare $19,000 in clothing and jewelry she bought in a trip to Paris this week.”
He had me but he lost me.
This seems reminiscent of the “moderate” Republican efforts in the sixties to stop Goldwater with someone like Rockefeller, Scranton, etc. to beat LBJ. I’ve seen that movie before and didn’t like it then.
Where’s the little brown ones?
Let’s face it Bush’s comment isn’t based on his wife, kids, or the Arizona law. It’s 100% politics and that’s the true evil of illegal immigration. No one will throw a voter’s illegal mommy and daddy out, and the politicians are mortified that the 12 million illegals will become 12 million voters who hate them someday.
And that’s how illegal immigration undermines the society.
I might even accept Jeb’s approach but for one gigantic fact. We all know that after allowing 12 million illegals the government is NOT going to control the border, and those 12 million new citizens will become a political battering ram to keep the border open.
I would imagine that he was sought out for his position on the matter for the libs to have a so called “conservative” to point to and say “look, even this guy is against it”.
Specifically the Arizona style immigration law headed to the Florida legislature.
"On January 29, 2002, according to a police report made public via The Smoking Gun, Noelle Bush attempted to fraudulently obtain a prescription at a Walgreens Drug Store located in Tallahassee, Florida. The attending officers, Bob Bascom and Mark E. Dent of the Tallahassee Police Department, ascertained that Bush had telephoned the pharmacy using the name Noelle Scidmore in an attempt to obtain Xanax, a prescription drug used to treat anxiety disorders. As a result of her arrest, Bush was ordered by a judge to attend a rehabilitation program at the Center for Drug-Free Living in Orlando, Florida. During her time at the facility, Bush was found in contempt of court after being found in possession of two grams of cocaine, and was sentenced to 10 days in jail.
Upon completion of her rehabilitation program, the governor's press office released a statement on his behalf. Columba and I are pleased that our daughter Noelle has completed this step, and grateful for the treatment she's received ... . She has worked hard to get here. We are proud of her efforts and love her very much. Regarding her treatment, Noelle Bush herself told the court It's been quite a challenge, and I'm grateful.
