Former president John F. Kennedy, Jr. remains the most popular of recent past American presidents, according to a recent Gallup poll, while former President Richard Nixon continues to rank as the least popular.
According to the poll, Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1963, enjoys an 85 percent approval rating - up one point from 2006 figures. He bests by 11 points former President Ronald Reagan, who clocked in at second place with a 74 percent rating.

Yes, I believe we know what McNamara would do.
I remember vividly when I was told Kennedy had been shot. At my high school the kids were celebrating. I did notice after maybe half an hour the mood changed and I heard several say something like “I am glad he got shot but hope he doesn’t die”.
After it was announced on the intercom that he had died there was definitely a somber mood. I guess it actually hit home and just about everyone was sad.
He was very unpopular tho in this area.
Eisenhower did not get us into Vietnam, a few hundred advisers was not a war, especially since we had been dealing in Vietnam even during WWII, moving 16,000 troops there was the Kennedy escalation into full involvement and commitment, that caused what we think of as “The Vietnam War”.
The French got us into Vietnam, when they refused to give up their colonies after WWII.
Kennedy had approximately 16,000 in 1963, and we became seriously involved.
Johnson of course, upped the amount considerably.
Sending 16,000 troops to Vietnam got us into a war, not the French.
We now grade the achievements of our former presidents by the standard of a guy who was dorking Joe Dimaggio's wife.
Shaking hands with Diem does not tie our flag to Vietnam. Supporting a coup that kills Diem does tie our flag to Vietnam. Kennedy was THE absolute zip wad in dealing with SE Asia.
The Kennedy's have invested a LOT in their brand. Even though most of the Kennedy spawn are total screw-ups, they all agree in the need to keep the Camelot BS going. The Kennedy's are still helped in their propoganda by many elitist Dems who have coinciding interests, although I believe the ardour is declining.
The Democratic Party has a vested interest in maintaining the image of JFK.
Ok, I'll play. Actually, it was Roosevelt. Post WWII,he wanted the French to end colonialism in Indochina. And, was insistent that this happen and intended for the U.S. to establish a trusteeship over Indochina. However, he died before the war was over. Truman, new on the job, and being somewhat more fearful of the Commies than Roosevelt allowed the French back into Indochina. Sooo, you could say it was a combination of both Roosevelt and Truman for the genesis of the 1st Vietnam War which set the table for the 2nd Vietnam War.
Regardless, it was not JFK.

Having these moron's count change is always a laugh as well. I bought something once for $11.23, I gave the clerk $21.25, she then looked confused and said: "You gave me too much money". She gave me my $1.25 back, then counted out $8.77 cents, just like the cash register indicated.
