Africa Can Feed Itself in a Generation, Experts Say

— Africa can feed itself. And it can make the transition from hungry importer to self-sufficiency in a single generation.
The startling assertions, in stark contrast with entrenched, gloomy perceptions of the continent, highlight a collection of studies published December 2 that present a clear prescription for transforming Sub-Saharan Africa's agriculture and, by doing so, its economy.

The strategy calls on governments to make African agricultural expansion central to decision making about everything from transportation and communication infrastructure to post-secondary education and innovation investment.

I was working famine relief in East Africa back in 1980-81.

Three times I had other relief workers (US or European) tell me they had overheard the local women saying:

“If we get a good harvest next year, let’s don’t save any, let’s make it all into BEER! If we run out of food, these folks will come back and feed us again.”

Different tribes, different countries. Same attitude.

Africa was feeding itself, until the UN and communism started creeping in.

Communism kills, everywhere it happens.

Need more modern farming methods....Wrong. Modern farming methods WERE introduced during Colonialism, but the tribal system was threatened and rejected, totally. If a tribes was rich enough to get out, the other tribes would be subjegated. There is no way for Africa to improve unless the tribal situation is destroyed.
