This again.
According to Reuters and Yonhap, there has been more North Korean artillery fire, though it's all in the water near disputed territory, and not necessarily in actual South Korean waters.
South Korean markets went quickly negative on the news:

Yep....AIT heard about 30 minutes ago. Tweeters tweeting about this. Dicey there indeed but how far Kim-bo goes remains to be seen. Hopefully he is not that stupid...the fact remains how long can South Korea restrain from acting before the people really get anxious about this.

I imagine it’s hard to trade effectively when you are diving for a bomb shelter.

the South Korean Defense Minister was talking tough today about stepping up readiness of his forces, so I am not surprised to see the Norks try and provoke a response. They can shoot all the rockets into the Yellow Sea that they want, as long as they don’t come near any real targets things will stay calm, but tense.

The artillary barage and the Cheonan sinking appear linked to the upcoming leadership change. One has to wonder what will happen if the top NK leaders suddenly realize they are going to be completely overthrown.
Do they then start a full blown war as a desperate bid to stay in power?

Am I to assume by the lack of media followup that these shells did not hit Sout Korean territory?

Well yes, in part....but the food shortage is hitting the military and elites there as well this time. Can't imagine how bad the countryside people are doing. We know International Help is afraid they are heading into various stages of hunger as there were in the 90’s, when so many died from starvation...if not already there. Reports from defectors say people are dying once again. So Kim will do what he has to to get the food flowing as more and more of the people there are starting to believe Kim is not all he has been cracked up to be.
The whole country is at a tipping point..IMO...and more than just the usual badgering Kim does. I think the International community has had it with the whole affair there and are not willing to see the people starve nor another 50 60 years with Kim-bos son as dictator.
My opinion is the country and leadership are so weakened that a covert operation may likely come into play...with nations military standing by if needed. Time will tell but I don't think this is going to continue...likely Kim-bo is dying.

And you capitol is within artillery range of the Norks. Now that’s vulnerability.

What happened this morning can be best described as a taunting. After mauling somebody badly, a mad dog merely shows his teeth, and people could go panic, and the mad dog really loves it. So predictable.

It would have been much smarter for the South Koreans to move their capital to Busan after the last war, but I guess that would be impossible for cultural reasons.
Oh well, too late to worry about that now.

I think the latter. They get a kick out being a-holes.

Have a look at “ Inside North Korea” a National Geographic film, avail on Netflix.... Don't expect the population to wave flags from windows and jump and sing in the streets if an occupation takes place . These folks are as committed as the populace of Japan in WWII.
They show a Nepal doctor doing eye surgery for cataracts on 1000 NK’s.. when the were able to see again , they didn't thank the doctor, they bowed in front of a picture of “ the Great Leader” to give praise..
It's a nation of nut jobs .. dangerous nut jobs ....

I have seen it.
Been there too, sorta.
Panmunjom meeting room. Crossed into NK for a bit.
