For now, the only members of Chico's city Council that have a clue are
Mark Sorensen (L) just sworn in and Larry Wahl (R) who is leaving
to assume a Butt County Supervisor seat he won.
Last night was just the second time in my 22 years living in Chico that I suffered through an evening of listening to what the members of the Chico City Council had to say. If it weren't for Mark Sorensen's actually winning and being sworn in, I would not have been there last night. Now that it is over, I am glad I did go, not only because I was able to see a conservative get sworn in, but also because I was actually able to watch the way Socialists determine what is important for the citizens of Chico.
The three candidates receiving the most votes are being
sworn in (L to R) Scott Gruendl, Mary Flyn, & Mark Sorensen
I was going to go over the many items discussed at last night's meeting, but instead I decided to inform you that Chico is broke. Yup you heard me correctly. Fact is, not only is the city broke, but also it is $9 million in debt. I listened for two hours as they went over the city's finances, and it became very evident that while the media has been reporting that Chico has a balanced budget over $41,000 in the black, the truth is they lied. If my wife and I balanced our checkbook the way the Chico City Council balances theirs, we would be in jail for grand larceny. I don't care how they explain it to the public; the city is $9 million in debt. If you are curious though, Scott Gruendl and Jim Walker both think the developers and the citizens are at fault for the way the council and their liberal cohorts have spent $9 million the city didn't have.
So with the city being $9 million in debt, I bet you figure they were spending the evening trying to find a way to get out of the red, right? Well, not really. Instead, they spent their time taking more rights away from the citizens of Chico. To start with, they voted 4-3 to force an entrepreneur named Mike to quit playing his music so loud while driving his clients around in his zero-emission Bicycle Cab. These liberals seem to think that they should regulate his bike as they do cars.
At the suggestion of Larry Wahl they did agree to spend a moment in silence honoring those who died at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked us in 1942. I must say that I was quite shocked and surprised because I half expected the five Socialist members of the City Council to take a moment and apologize for the bombs Truman dropped on Japan to end the war. But hey, they made up for that when the same five Socialists voted 5-2 to begin the process of banning all non-compliance wood stoves within the city limits of Chico by next Winter. Oh, they did decide to re-educate the public about the need to have clean air though. There goes more non-productive money being spent that the city does not have.
Now, the Council was not completely anti business because they did vote 6-1 for the approval of a liquor license, and they gave a standing ovation to a retiring Socialist member of the Council. That would be the seat that Mark Sorensen won in the election. At least we're replacing a Socialist with a Conservative, so things are looking up.
Finally, I want to congratulate Mark on his first official day as a Chico City Council member. Mark, you are now a member of one of the most liberal city councils in the State of California. It is my prayer that the Good Lord will grant you the grace and patience needed to put up with these Socialists for the next 2 years. Maybe then we can get some help for you. After all, as soon as Larry Wahl steps down to assume his new Butte County Supervisor seat, you will truly be alone in a Socialist world.
I think I'll be attending more of these City Council meetings in the future. I feel as though I should keep track of the way things are going because 2012 is just around the corner.

Unfortunately, the voters of Chico really have no clue as to what goes on at these meetings, they just vote for whomever the local media tells them to. Sometimes we get lucky and a conservative slips by their radar to win a seat on the Council like my friend Mark Sorensen or Larry Wahl.
I went to a city Council meeting to watch my friend Mark get sworn in. What I learned was very enlightening, maddening and sad.........

Is Chico in Butt County? or under it?? **hahaha**
So the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor in 1942?Who edits this tripe?
dude...
Pearl Harbor was Dec 7, 1941... less than a month before 1942... but still... I hope that is your typo and not the City Councils’... cause that would be really funny... and sad.
“to assume a Butt County Supervisor seat he won.”
Too many arse jokes in one sentence!
get out while you still can.
It’s mine, and I know it was 41.
I corrected it on my site but forgot to add the correction her before I hit enter.
Oh well.
Flame me...LOL
My city council is probably great compared to that even though the Mayor is a ‘friend of ACORN’ or was.
Are you sure they weren’t honoring the Japanese who died at Pearl Harbor?
Or would that be too much San Fran in the cereal bowl?
bunch of morons run that city. good to hear a conservative got elected!
Another verror on my part. It should be Butte.
OV,
Butt the way they’re governing in Butte County, “Butt” makes perfect sense. And whenever I see “assume,” I think of Benny Hill. And with “seat” thrown in too???
It is ripe for jokes, but then again this whole city is a friggen joke.
LOL :>)
I am curious about their ban on wood stoves. What are non-compliant wood stoves? They want people to heat their homes with oil from Saudi Arabia?
Just like liberals. It’s okay to pollute other countries like Saudi Arabia but not our own. LOL
All this Chico-Talk has me yearning for the Chili-Cheese-Fries at Madison Bear Garden... yum!
College students will be, well, college students.
‘85 (i think) saw the banning of Pioneer Days because of the riots (think impromptu bonfire on 5th avenue). And the city council banned the rescuing of “Li’l Nell” by the “Sheriff” as it was just so darned sexist.
I grew up 40 miles away in the little town o Willows.
THAT city council made a deal with the state to take a boatload or two of the Hmong refugees. Crime in my hometown went through the roof.
It is true. You can’t go home again.
Guilty. My bad. Sorry OV.
