WASHINGTON -- Food safety legislation stalled by a constitutional snag could be revived as part of a giant year-end budget bill.

The bill to increase the Food and Drug Administration's powers to keep food safe stalled after overwhelmingly passing the Senate last week. House Democrats said after it passed that the bill contains fees that are considered tax provisions, which under the Constitution must originate in the House.

This is potential good news. I thought this bill already passed?

Well, in any case, I hope this doesn't pass final muster.

............. Food insurance is sounding like a great idea right about now.

this is not about safety, its about government controlling and possibly future rationing of the food supply.

If Al Franken is a sponsor, you can assume it’s dumb as hell.

Call Now to Stop S. 510

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2638758/posts

Skirting the U.S. Constitution? Because S. 510 creates federal revenue (fees/taxes), the U.S. Constitution requires the bill to originate from the U.S. House , not the U.S. Senate (it should have an H.R., not a S. before the bill number). Because S. 510 came to the House from the Senate, House liberals are trying to find a “must have” House bill to attach the Senate’s language. They would then send back to the Senate for final passage and President Obama’s signature.
ACT NOW. Tell your representative in Congress NOT to fix the S. 510. Ask them to Kill the Bill! Find contact info here. Capitol Switchboard: 202-224-3121.

Is this the same bill that would shut down mom ‘n pop farmers markets and fine you for sharing your backyard vegetables with a neighbor?

Food safety legislation stalled by a constitutional snag

You gotta laugh at that, or you will cry. "Constitutional snag?" Is that all the Constitution is to the Left? Just an irritation, a minor delay, a "just a minute while I get loose from this" along the Highway to Hell? A more telling phrase have I not seen for a very long time.

” Is that all the Constitution is to the Left? Just an irritation, a minor delay, a “just a minute while I get loose from this” along the Highway to Hell? “

Just as with TARP, Porkulus, and Obamacare, too many ‘interests’ (AKA, ‘contributors’) stand to make too much money out of this to allow minor things like the Constitution, or The Voters, get in the way....

On topic, did you ever get any more rabbits? I went to a rabbit show outside Richmond last weekend and came home with all kinds of information.

I’m not surprised. Chambliss and Isaakson are foul RINOS. I was constantly calling their offices to complain when I lived in GA.

Don’t feel too bad — my Senators are Binghaman and Udall (both empty-suit Dem hacks...) (And both sponsors of this bill, BTW...)

How have you been nina? No we didn't. We are concentrating on chickens right now. There is a young couple in our church that is operating a kind of cottage/barter business with rabbits. They don't have room for birds like we do, but are taking advantage of the fact that they can raise rabbits inside, they are also selling the pelts. They also raise Portobello mushrooms (yummmm!). We've been swapping eggs and birds for bunnies and fungus. It's helping them out and we increased our flock size to compensate. It simplifies things quite a bit.

My meat cutter buddy came over Sunday afternoon and slaughtered my hog, got some hams and bacon smoking right now, and the wife and boy are making sausage. My 8 yr old shot his first wild turkey the day after Thanksgiving (18 pounder), and I got my 4th deer of the year in back of my barn Saturday morning. We've got plenty of meat to carry us through the winter. I bought another freezer back in September, and now all three are about full.

Unfortunately my HOA sees chickens as livestock. My starter rabbits will be pets. Their offspring will NOT, but one rabbit looks pretty much like the next, so who’s gonna know?
