Cold-stunned turtles wash ashore on N.C. beaches

WILMINGTON (AP) — The cold weather gripping North Carolina means more stunned sea turtles off the state's coast.

The cold-blooded sea turtles become paralyzed by abnormally low temperatures. The StarNews of Wilmington reports that 30 turtles were reported in trouble Tuesday afternoon near Cape Lookout.

That's on top of the more than 20 turtles that Topsail Beach Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center director Karen Beasley says have already been discovered along the coast.

Loggerhead sea turtles are protected as a threatened species under the federal Endangered Species Act. Six loggerhead sea turtles that had been rescued from waters off the Outer Banks were released this summer after nearly six months at the Georgia Aquarium and the Georgia Sea Turtle Center.

Did the guy that stunned em’ yell “Hell yeah”, then drink a couple of beers?

I saw the name of a business on a pickup truck across the street from my kids’ school as I did playground duty this morning: Soggy Bottom Mule Farm. I immediately thought ‘that would make a cool name for a band.’

‘Cold-Stunned Turtles’ would be a close second for me ;)

And Mother Nature is killing them.

She's been known to be a real b*tch (see dinosaurs, unicorns and the Edmund Fitzgerald)

Will this cold weather kill off any pythons?

Leave them alone and let them evolve.

Yup. Kilt a bunch last year, even as far as the Everglades.

I like “Customary Spontaneous Violence”.

The phrase was used in an article I read a year or so ago about the murders of Coptic Christians in some islamic hell-hole or another.

A tragic story, but I think that phrase has serious potential as a name for a Thrash Metal or Punk Band.

Big snow storm coming this weekend for the east and it will be followed by another arctic blast Monday-Tuesday. That blast will bring cold all the way down to Florida. Accuweather was predicting Real Feel temperatures in the 20's F in the panhandle of Florida possible. Gonna be freezing more then Turtles. It will be colder then the current blast.

Extreme U.S. Cold Turns Even More Fierce Next Week

Monday morning. Ten days before Christmas.

Most reptiles are very good at finding cover. Snakes go underground, Democraps kick the dust monster out from under the bed and crawl out of sight.

Only when the water gets close to freezing, will we see dead green anacondas and a python or three floating up.

IMHO, the best way to reduce the population of exotic snakes is to tell Thebedeau and Boudereau that those snakes are delicious either blackened or in a gumbo, and that they have no limit, no minimum, and the season is open all year long.

Problem solved.

Save the turtles, build a coal fired power plant.

LOL What if, just "if" liberal idiocy caused global cooling?

**Cold-stoned turtle biebers are huge and series.**

Whatever you say - - - - ;-)

But, cold turtle can be easily turned into cooked turtle.

Delicious!

“Save the turtles, build a coal fired power plant.”

How about also killing a manatee to save innocent seagrass.

PS Florida alreasdy has far too many manatee - and they are grazing hte seagrass too heavily.

PPS Manatee never overwintered in FLorida in the numbers they now do until all those nice warm power plant effluent currents came to be.
