In a crowded gym during practice in front of parents and coaches, the Buchanan High School wrestler tackled a teammate and executed a move his coaches taught him.
He inserted his fingers between the boy's buttocks.
Here’s video of the move being used in several matches. Yeah, it is perfectly within the rules of the sport and has been forever. Can’t believe anyone got into wrestling without knowing that.
I'm not sure what you are talking about. When I was wrestling in HS in PA over a quarter century ago, I never had a coach teach or saw anyone try this move. Of course, I haven't kept up with the sport since then.
Meanwhile, during the after school team parties, old gladiator movies starring Steve Reeves were the hit of the evening....
The mods are relentless on this thread!
My post wasn’t bad at all!
Geesh!
I thought this was a Joke until I googled the story! It is unbelievable anything like this is taught as a legitimate wrestling move.
If you can find footage of college or AAU or Olympic wrestling from that era, you’ll see it was being used even then, and earlier than that.
It may not have been as common at the high school level then, though I was in high school a bit earlier than that and was taught it, because most high school wrestling coaches then, and to some degree even now, really don’t know a lot about the sport.
Again, it’s within the rules of the sport, and if his opponent was wearing a singlet and jock, I really doubt his finger went into his anus.
Welcome to the Youtube era. Now that the videos are out, It wouldn't surprise me if this becomes a top ten "move" in the next few months.
At least in Massachusetts and the California Bay Area . . . .
I’ve got to agree with kosciusko51, when I wrestled in HS and college (only intramural, not team) in the 1980s I never saw this move. If someone had tried this on me it would have turned into a hockey match very soon, ha ha ha.
Myself and all my brothers wrestled for years and I’ve never heard of it either.
How did this coach teach him this move? To say it would be inappropriate contact would be an understatement.
I think this move was made legal by the Don’t Ask, Don’t Smell act in 1999.
Reading the story there appears to have been some conflict before between the two boys and the seventeen year old took 'revenge' on the 14 year old in practice and went beyond the normal bounds. I can't say what happened but I can easily understand that it would and could happen particulary if there was a differnce in skill and strength between the two.
Some coaches call it “skinning.” It may have other names that I’m not aware of. It doesn’t involve putting your fingers in anyone’s anus. It does involve grabbing your opponent’s butt cheek to turn him.
The boy who has been charged says he did a butt drag, a legal but painful move.
The boy who filed charges said he out his fingers in his anus, an illegal and painful move.
Yeah, that could well be the case. Unfortunately, hazing is too common in high school sports, and it often has a sexual element.
Or maybe the younger boy is just exaggerating what happened to him. I don’t know. I wasn’t there.
But if the older boy is telling the truth, he did a move that has been legal in the sport forever.
It was unheard of when I wrestled. Are we sure this isn’t from the Onion?
Hmmmm.... occasionally I read about girls being allowed to participate in boys wrestling. Doesn’t this type of move put them at a disadvantage? Just asking.
