Palin to Haiti with Graham
Politico ^ | 12/9/10 at 7:14 PM EST | Andy Barr

Posted on 12/09/2010 6:44:27 PM PST by Josh Painter

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is heading to Haiti this weekend with evangelist Franklin Graham, a Palin source confirmed to POLITICO.

Palin and Graham will visit a cholera clinic in addition to other stops, as was first reported by CNN.

The Haiti visit was the second foreign trip to surface Thursday. Palin is also planning possible visits next year to Israel and Britain.

The Haiti trip could serve two distinct political purposes for Palin.

First, it provides an opportunity to expand her image and policy portfolio beyond her limited image as a darling of the tea party movement.

Second, she'll be able to better establish her claim to evangelical voters if she chooses to seek the Republican presidential nomination. Evangelicals overwhelmingly supported former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, one of Palin's potential 2012 rivals, in the early 2008 GOP primaries and caucuses.

West Michigan for some reason has really taken on Haiti as a project.

There have been teams for the last year that have gone to Haiti. One donated corporate jet was flying back and forth almost nonstop for months. And they are still making trips.

The people I met when I was there (pre-earthquake) are very good people, but focused almost entirely on basic survival. So they can’t see or understand the political and economic structure that enslaves them.

Funny, I suggested not long ago that Haiti would have been a perfect international cause for Sarah Palin.

It would help people desperately in need, show a side of her that people have not seen and give her a bit of international experience (for lack of a better word).

Palin supporters flamed me saying that going to Haiti would be seen as a shallow Hollywood gesture. And Sarah would not do something like that because she is too smart.

I would agree with you if you limited it to our government needs to stay out of Haiti.

But I disagree with you if you are saying (and I think you are) that others shouldn’t try to help them. I have no problem with people chosing to give their money to assist the poor as long as it is their money.

Haiti isn’t God-forsaken. They have a need and a hunger for the love and forgiveness only available through Jesus Christ. More Christians need to go.

Graham heads the group Samaritan’s Purse, an excellent humanitarian and disaster relief organization. They do great work...it does not warrant your disparagement. You are fortunate not to have been born there and gotten stuck in this situation of indescribable suffering - and get someone over here sitting at their computer saying “who cares about them?” If you want to “control the money” then donate to Samaritan’s Purse. It would even be a tax write off.

I wish she wouldn’t go into the land of voodoo. Tis a God forsaken land, with filth, stench, poverty, disaster, disease, mayhem, murder, and all sorts of violent crimes of wickedness.

Haiti is the equivalent of hell, on planet earth.

It isn’t God-forsaken. He has put it on the hearts of many Christians to reach out to them. And, it is the only thing which will help them to see that each one is created in the image of God. The reason it is such a caldron of evil is that the people have turned their backs on God and worshipped Satan. Nevertheless, God is still reaching out and calling His people back to Himself.

Another hit piece in a long line of hit pieces with many more to come. Bring it on Politico, etc. The moreyou keep Sarah Palin in the news the more people get to know that she is the real deal and not going for political expediency.

Haiti certainly gives the appearance of being God forsaken. Besides, God has a history of turning his back on people. Remember Sodom and Gomorrah?

Kind of in a "God so loved the world.... except for Haiti" kind of way.

That must be in the New Revised Standard International Chain-Smoking Reference Version.

I’ve been to both Haiti and the Dominican Republic (the other side of the island of Hispaniola). It’s like two different worlds. The Dominicans are hard working and truly making progress. Haiti is truly a Third World hellhole.

Remember Sodom and Gomorrah?

Well, no, not personally, although my last name really and truly is Lott. ;)

You do have a point. But, we cannot know when that time is. We have been ordered to take the Gospel into all the world, to the farthest reaches, to all the islands and to every tribe, tongue and nation. And, I believe, that as long as someone is prompted by the Holy Spirit to go, they must go. To do otherwise is dangerous. Remember Jonah?

So we go. We go and share Christ, and we keep sharing Christ until He returns and gathers His ransomed people in. What a glorious day that will be!

.
The only way the LSM turns this into any kind of photo-op is if they catch Sarah mispronouncing some name...
