Wednesday the Westboro Baptist Church announced plans to protest the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards. Edwards, the estranged wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards, died Tuesday after a six-year battle with cancer.
The Westboro Baptist Church sent out a press release condemning Edwards and her family, and announcing the group's plan to protest her funeral at the Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina.

There are some people with no decency.
Can’t they let the dead rest in peace?

Based on a FR request from a week or so ago, I’ve restrained myself from giving an opinion on her. After her funeral, maybe I’ll speak up a bit.

I’ve seen this pathetic group protest at a soldier’s funeral, and they disgust me beyond words. They are clearly not Christian, and they give the impression of being one of the sickest, most inbred families I’ve seen. Worse, it looks to me like their protests are a carnival to them. Give a strange enough freak show, and someone will applaud. I think these protests are a money generator to them, where those people whose lives are centered around hating gays instead of around loving God send money to fund the WBB “Church’s” work.

Fred Phelps, Jr. served as a Gore delegate on the floor of the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta in 1988 and Gore invited him to both the 1993 and 1997 presidential inaugurations. I don't know if they have any relationship now but they used to be good buds.

Those rumors that you can hire an assassin for only a couple hundred bucks must be greatly exaggerated.

Where do they get the mney to travel around and do this?
And why protest her funeral? Because her husband is gay?

Verbal harassment and stalking are forms of freedom of speech according to half a century or more of liberal judges.

She was an advocate for both ‘gay rights’ and abortion. That, and the fact that the media will be there en masse is enough to get these cretins out of their hole.

Liberal judges say you’re entitled to violate a funeral because some nut should be allowed to make a nuisance of himself.
There you have it.

I certainly don't agree with the protest.
With that said, if they are allowed to protest our soldiers then I guess they can protest her.
I personally think funerals should be left alone. Especially Military & Police funerals where the deceased member died while on duty, protecting our freedoms.

The community needs to band around the family and take up public space so these jerks can’t get near the Edwards family, using large banners or flags if needed. This has been successful twice recently in Missouri.
