Gun Toting Santa Draws Fire
NBC Bay Area ^ | 12/9/2010

Some would say this is political correctness run amok

A painted plywood cut-out of Santa with a cowboy hat and a gun on his belt is causing quite a stir in the town of Turlock.

The Santa is one of many displays that line a Christmas tree lot. Workers said they have been using the same cowboy Santa display for 20 years and have never had a compliant until now.

A woman named Monica Sliva didn't like the idea of Santa packing heat so she asked them to take it down. ”I tried to get the image out of my head all day long and I could not, because Santa is made for love, bringing families together, not carrying weapons,” Sliva told KCRA.

Sliva confronted the workers at the tree lot telling them it sends the wrong message to children.

“It portrays to the kids that it’s OK for Santa to be carrying a gun and therefore it’s OK for them to be carrying a gun,” Sliva said.

“I think it’s pretty crazy, to tell you the truth,” Bobby Vierra said. “I mean, we're just trying to sell trees out here.”

When commotion over the display caused traffic to back up, workers covered the gun on Santa's belt. The display was then temporarily taken down.

Vierra said he feels the attention is unfair. "It's just a Santa," he said. "You know, it's just a cowboy."

But just before closing time the display was put back up, his gun still covered. The owner said he has done nothing wrong, so Santa is back. --KCRA.com

Very traditional. If it was blaze orange, he’d look like a few guys in my hunt club.

Monica, your whiney, insignificant opinion has been noted. Now, either get a job or a hobby, so you have something productive to occupy your time, and let these people get on about their business. Geez.

While that biyatch pi**es and moans about nothing, and while the nation is actually having a serious discussion about letting carpet munchers and pole smokers serve openly in the military, Venezuela is giving the green light to host Iranian missiles, North Korea is shelling South Korea, etc. When the invasion comes, the Chicoms are going to just walk in and take this country without breaking a sweat.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

She can’t get the image out of her mind.

She'll probably sue for mental anguish.

I don’t get why there’s a problem with the FIQ (freeper in question)....

it’s a Santa dressed as a cowboy. No contradiction. A Santa that is embracing the norms of traditional American culture.

It used to be considered polite to carry openly,
and sinister and dastardly to carry concealed.

But that was before the time when the virtue of “self-reliance” was spat upon.

Read the reply a couple above your initial posting.
I see nothing wrong with a cowboy Santa!
Remember, he’s not real!
OOPs, don’t tell the kids.....BUT WE ARE TALKING SANTA!!!!!(Or at least a cardboard rendition)
RE: open carry, I agree I would never do that. Keep it concealed and dry, ready for use.....

His trees, land and santa.

I’d say that your opinion probably matters little except that he kept the gun covered in deference to the mush brain.

Merry Christmas!

Well, it IS OK for them to be carrying a gun!

I don’t get it either! May be a rigid view of tradition coupled with a warped sense of freedom.

Santa brought me many guns in my youth.

Merry Christmas!
