Troops are ready for the end of 'don't ask, don't tell' [says Petraeus aid Marvin Hill]

Troops are ready for the end of 'don't ask, don't tell'

By Roland S. Martin, CNN Senior Political Contributor

(CNN) -- One of the reasons Defense Secretary Robert Gates commissioned a study on how the military feels about gays serving openly was because it was ridiculous to listen to politicians rambling on and on, and not to those who have to do the heavy lifting.

When the results were released, they showed more than two-thirds believe their work wouldn't be harmed by changing the 17-year-old law. That was clear evidence to many that the law needed to be overturned.

But after massive flip-floppers like Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona ignored the advice of the defense secretary and the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and continued to come up with reasons why the policy needs to be kept, it's no surprise the measure failed this week to get beyond a GOP filibuster.

It was largely Republicans who blocked the measure from being debated in the Senate, with supporters only able to muster 57 of the needed 60 votes. The only Democrat to go along with the Republican opponents was Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia.

Supporters of the repeal say they have the votes to pass the measure, but who knows if moderate Republicans will come up with more reasons why they can't support the legislation? The one thing that is absolutely clear is that it is time for this law to be revoked.

In an interview on my TV One Cable Network Sunday morning news show, "Washington Watch," I talked with the top enlisted officer serving in Afghanistan, Command Sgt. Maj. Marvin Hill, who made it clear that soldiers serving on the battlefield can be led to implement the changes if Congress will act.

Sounds like the top brass in the military are forcing the troops to support this. Wonder if Petreaus really supports this or is just being a good soldier and doing what the COC and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs wants done.

What are they going to do create a Special “Obama Sinclair” unit for these behavior challenged scumbags?

I can’t believe that our military is in such bad shape that it cannot survive without filling the ranks with flaming homosexuals and illegal aliens. America sure has gone into the toilet.

a majority of COMBAT troops are strongly opposed

even if their un-scientific survey is remotely accurate they are using the responses of office desk jockeys to justify pushing this on the combat troops who will really have to deal with the consequences

I have a idea, why don’t they just make a special branch for gays?

Sounds once again like pencil pushing brass is speaking for others they haven't spoken to.

Military Chiefs Cast Doubt on Repealing 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'

Sorry, but serving in the Military isn't a right.

Once it is declared such, who else will demand their "right?"

The Military has always discriminated with sound reasoning.

but, my biggest question is why is it that gays cannot serve, should they so choose, unless they are allowed to declare their sexuality?

The problems won't be during battle, but back at base camp, as some perceive being jilted or attempts at seduction, or gawking naked bodies in the shower and such.

The Military is not a social club, especially during war.

I've said for years, that our military is now dependent on technology and "special forces" to do the job a military is supposed to do. We depend on these men to do the real work while others provide support only. Also, the military has been become a "jobs program" under our liberalization since the 70's.

Revisionist spin on what the results actually say.

I don't see why an old Fart Gaytes thinks he speaks for Men and Women that are housed in close quarters, and fight in even closer quarters.

I would love to see these so called Generals sleeping in their skivvies in a barracks, and have an amorous Homosexual climb in his bunk with him. Then we would see how fast they would keep DADT.

If there is anything worse to destroy the readiness of our Military, I do not know what it would be. What the draft dodger and the inept Commie did not do to destroy our Fighting forces, this certainly will.

I don't particularly care about the sympathies of the cooks, band musicians, stewards, clerks, hospital corpsmen, KP and latrine duty personnel and other military “support” people. What matters is the preferences of the combat troops. According to a recent Ann Coulter column, the combat personnel are against any change in DADT.

I don’t mind that gays in the military will have the right to ‘flaunt’ and ‘practice’ their homosexuality, as long as the non-homosexual soldiers have the right to beat the crap out of them.

They are forcing the Christian paradigm shift to Paganism. No Christians allowed in the military....they are homophobes.

The Marxist in Chief wants a homosexual military...one like the pederasts of pagan Rome and Greece. More examples of homosexual armies are ancient Japan and the homosexual SS troops of Hitler. Kill sexual morality codes which create respect for the body and creation of life, and you create a military who are capable of the atrocities of Hitler.

I am not saying all homosexuals are capable of extreme evil....I am saying that because of their lack of moral sensibility and their perverted lens of life, they are more likely to be able to discard all moral ethics. It is the slippery slope.

The homosexual in chief knows this by experience and wants his SS troops to destroy this country. Right now the moral military stands in his way. Destroy the ability to have a Christian paradigm—(they become evil haters when they reject advances of homosexual commanders) and you create an immoral military—void of character and honor—like the atheist Russians and godless socialist Nazis.

Perhaps those who live on generals row are ready to end DADT, but the same cannot be said for those who live in the junior enlisted barracks.

Good point. This is from
http://www.frc.org/get.cfm?i=IF10K01

The military member survey ignores important questions and has serious flaws.

•It fails to ask whether the homosexual ban should be repealed and whether the respondent is homosexual.
•It asks numerous questions about the impact perceived homosexuals have on unit performance and for a variety of undefined military concepts like readiness. The poll fails to corroborate the validity of the perceptions.
•It presents homosexuality — which is not defined — as a neutral factor and privacy questions only offer accommodation answers.
•Only one in four members randomly selected to participate in the survey actually participated.

The military spouse survey has similar flaws.

•It fails to ask whether the homosexual ban should be repealed and the impact of open homosexuality for military children.
•It does not address religious and moral objections to homosexuality nor define homosexuality.
•It does not address privacy and spousal concerns about open homosexual behavior in the military community.
•It assumes homosexual couples will receive the same benefits as married heterosexual military couples—although granting such benefits would likely violate the federal Defense of Marriage Act.

What stands out to me is the survy NEVER asked the question if the ban should be lifted!!! That alone, tells me it was faulty at the least, staged at the worst.

All the enemy will need to do to distract and divide our troops on the battlefield is............. show up naked and carrying a rubber chicken.

Just having this conversation is insane.

Our military leaders spending time trying to accommodate a bunch of guys whose perverted behavior includes ramming their penis up the anal cavity of another male is absolutely crazy.

The way things are going, I can see myself trying to convince my grandsons to find some other way to serve their country, other than enlisting into what may become the Gag & Fag Corps.

Like I said, this conversation is insane.
