Senate backers launch last-ditch effort to repeal military gay ban

Next week will be crucial for gay rights advocates and congressional supporters of repealing the “Don't ask, don't tell” law.

Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) are working to garner support for a standalone bill to repeal the Clinton-era ban on openly gay people serving in the military. Lieberman and Collins formally introduced that bill on Friday.

The Senate this week dealt a severe blow to repeal when it fell short of the 60 votes necessary to start considering the defense authorization bill, which contains the repeal provision.

At this point the standalone repeal bill is a last-ditch effort. The strategy has the backing of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who is on standby to facilitate a successful vote in the House. Pelosi is part of the negotiations with the Senate to try to figure out the best and easiest way to pass repeal in the face of Republican opposition and a very crowded last week in session.

“Since the repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ has broad support among Senators, our troops, and the American people, it is my hope that that the Senate will move forward with an alternative legislative method," Pelosi said in a statement on Thursday. "The bipartisan proposal from Senators Lieberman and Collins provides renewed hope that progress is still possible in the Senate; an army of allies stands ready in the House to pass a standalone repeal of the discriminatory policy once the Senate acts."

If the bill is considered as a freestanding piece of legislation, it will most likely require 60 hours of debate because of the lack of unanimous consent and two possible cloture votes.

Republicans might very well stick to their pledge to block any bills until they see approval of a tax-cut deal and legislation funding the government in 2011.

It is possible Reid, who backs repeal, will have to keep the Senate in session beyond the target adjournment date of Dec. 17 to complete the legislation. There would also be pressure on the House to stay in session to get it done.

Lieberman and Collins working on a stand-alone bill to repeal DADT!

MY God, she signed the letter along with all the other 41 Republicans to not vote on anything until the taxes were complete, but of course she already broke that pledge.

This female is both a liar and a traitor to our straight military men and women.

Condoning and legalizing sodomy has no place in our fighting forces.

Something is screwy. There’s supposed to 1-5% or so percent of the world population that is queer. Why are these sick bastards fighting this hard for such a small percentage of the population?

Washington D.C. must be 40% queer and the Senate must be at least 60%.

May 24, 2010 – SPECIAL REPORT from WAYNE MADSEN.

Obama and Emanuel: Members of same gay bath house in Chicago

President Obama and his chief of staff Rahm Emanuel are lifetime members of the same gay bath house in uptown Chicago, according to informed sources in Chicago’s gay community, as well as veteran political sources in the city.

The bath house, Man’s Country, caters to older white men and it has been in business for some 30 years and is known as one of uptown Chicago’s “grand old bathhouses.” WMR was told by sources who are familiar with the bath house that it provides one-year “lifetime” memberships to paying customers and that the club’s computerized files and pre-computer paper files, include membership information for both Obama and Emanuel. The data is as anonymized as possible for confidentiality purposes. However, sources close to “Man’s Country” believe the U.S. Secret Service has purged the computer and filing cabinet files of the membership data on Obama and Emanuel.

Members of Man’s Country are also issued club identification cards. WMR learned that Obama and Emanuel possessed the ID cards, which were required for entry.

Obama began frequenting Man’s Country in the mid-1990s, during the time he transitioned from a lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School to his election as an Illinois State Senator in 1996. Emanuel, reportedly joined Man’s Country after he left the Clinton White Hosue and moved back to Chicago in 1998, joining the investment firm of Wasserstein Perella and maintaining his membership during his 2002 campaign for the U.S. 5th District House seat vacated by Rod Blagojevich, who was elected governor.

Man’s Country appears to be a “one stop shopping” center for gay men. The club’s website advertises steam rooms, “fantasy rooms,” bed rooms, male strippers, adult movies, and lockers.

However, Man’s Country was not the only location for Obama’s predatory gay sex activities. The Chicago gay community is aware that Obama often made contacts with younger men at his famous “pick-up basketball” games. It was at these “pick up” matches where Obama first met Emanuel and a young Democratic campaign worker and senior bank vice president named Alexi Giannoulias. Currently running for Obama’s old U.S. Senate seat now occupied by Roland Burris, Giannoulias successfully ran for Illinois Treasurer in 2006 after being drafted for the run by Chicago’s Democratic machine.

An all-sodomite military will surely push us over the edge into another civil war.

The soldiers who care about morale and the honor of the military will resign. Those left behind, the sodomites and their enablers, will be beholden to Obama, who will want to use them as his personal SS-style secret police force.

All it will take is one US sodomilitary attack on US citizens, and we will be back to 1864.

There is NO upside to repealing DADT.

Not one valid reason or upside, yet these US Senators and some military honchos are aching to do just that.

We really have to question “why?”

Remember that the ultimate goal of the left is to not only legalize sodomy but to gain APPROVAL from Americans. We are beyond ACCEPTANCE now. If the military is destroyed in the process, tough luck, they hate the military anyway and have for 50 years. SHAME on Gates and Mullens, the worst leadership team at the Pentagon since Robert McNamara’s days. Gates in particular is nothing but a puppet for Obama, pure gutter trash.

Uh, stretch, if that were true, wouldn't it have been passed while you all had the super-majority?

For those of you still contemplating Bolton as a potential POTUS candidate, you should know that he supports the repeal of DADT:

Asked about the president’s plan to repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’ Bolton said he is generally in favor of allowing anyone who wants to serve their country in the military to do so. “I don’t have any trouble with that [repealing ‘Don’t Ask, ‘Don’t Tell] assuming it is done in a way that is respectful of the people in the military who have great difficulty with it,” he said. “I don’t think there is any good answer to the question why shouldn’t gays and lesbians who want to serve their country be allowed to do it.”

While he told TheDC social issues “aren’t where I spend a lot of my time,” Bolton said he opposes abortion and has no problem with gay marriage – indeed, he said that gay marriage is “going to happen.” But, he added, “they are fundamentally issues to be resolved politically, primarily at the state level. And I think the notion of creating a constitutional right to abortion or a constitutional right to gay marriage is a mistake.”

It’s both amazing and disgusting to me that the homosexuals have such wide spread support in the top echelons of the military and congress.

Exactly so, but they were awaiting the ‘trumphed-up “study” and survey that was also trumphed-up and not sent to troops actually doing the fighting.

This is such an outrage, I can barely think of anything else.

Thanks very much for continuing to post those statements from Ambassador Bolton. DADT is a deal breaker with me, because there is NO upside to the repeal. None at all.

A major eye opener to those accepting the influx of Ron Paulies is that Ron Paul also supports repeal of DADT.

...the Clinton-era ban on openly gay people serving in the military...

It starts with a lie. The law before and after Clinton is that homosexuality is incompatible with military life/good order/discipline/morale. Clinton made a work around to allow those that behaved themselves serve.
