I posted this article in bloggers, but it really is an important news story. World Net Daily essentially frabricated an article out of the one I submitted to them to prop up their missile conspiracy theory.
The big story here is not about the contrail, but whether WND can be trusted as a news source.
If you deem it appropriate, please consider moving this thread over to one of the news categories.
Ping to some of the folks I’ve discussed this issue with on threads over the past month.
Thanks for posting this. I wonder these days, unless you are an actual observer of an event, what you can believe.
Well done.
The Chi Coms got ticked and blew off a missile to get Barry’s attention. Quit blaming WND and just accept it. And who can blame them? Bernanke is getting ready to screw the Chinese through stealth default on our debt to them. This is what happens when you have a weakling in the Whitehouse. It emboldens our enemies. We are in a dangerous world right now, made more dangerous by Barack H. Obama and company.
Great write-up. I’m sorry WND would rather have a story to sell than the facts. I must admit that I was a “missile man” when the video first broke. But some well-argued posts here on FR and a couple web-sites convinced me that, first, I didn’t have all the facts in my hand before stating my belief. And, second, I was giving the sole source of the video too much credit. Finally, when the story disappeared without appreciable fallout, I figured it had to be a jet’s contrail. This clinches it!
I can easily forgive mistakes, but I despise dishonesty and outright lies. CBS is guilty of the latter.
I don't know if WND is just so blinded by their world view and "experts" and agenda that they simply screwed up, or whether they posted this knowing just how dishonest it truly is.
Can you just go over in detail how your knowledge of SLBMs is superior to Dr. Kopp?
Also your specific arguments on how his arguments are incorrect would be useful, too. Thanks.
Great piece. Thanks for the post.
What a shame about WND. Makes me sad as I don’t feel there’s anyone trustworthy left anymore. I’m becoming more & more of a hermit.
WND cannot be trusted as a news source. They write yellow journalism to get traffic. They’ve deliberately mislead conservatives on the issue of Obama’s eligibility and repeatedly published demonstrably false rumors that have been debunked.
It does not surprise me at all that they edited your article to make more sensational. You’re wise to be skeptical of them. I never trust anything they publish. I always research their claims with outside sources.
I have NO personal knowledge of SLBMs. However, to my knowledge, I’m the only one who actually discussed this with both eyewitnesses and compared their perspectives and published them.
There is simply no basis left from which to argue it was a missile. It was seen for over ten minutes, it was an airliner, and CBS got great sweeps weeks ratings.
That’s all there is to the story.
You can bet that WND was intentionally deceptive. I’ve had three or four personal experiences with them where I notified them of their error and included the links to legitimate resources that clearly and indisputably debunked aspects of their “story” and WND never acknowledged it or issued a correction. Yellow journalism plain and simple.
Ping.
This obviously is not a Catholic article, but it is a heads up about a “conservative” news source that many have trusted over the years.
I’ve worked with many editors, and I’ve never experienced anything remotely like this.
I was shocked and sickened when I saw WND’s article this morning, and I didn’t know what to do about it, so I prayed about it and composed this article.
Hopefully, it will help someone better evaluate conspiracy theory claims in the future.
Mr. Kopp, am I on one of your spamlists or something?
If so, please remove me.
Ping. I know you’ve been following this story a little bit.
It was obviously coordinated!
