Senate one (Scott Brown) vote from passing dream act

The US Senate is reportedly one vote away from passing cloture for the so-called DREAM Act, which would allow a path towards citizenship for millions of illegals if the attend colleges or serve in the military.

The bill passed the House during a late-night session last week with a vote of 216-198. It was then shelved by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid after Republicans threatened to filibuster any legislation not related to the Bush tax cuts.

It is believed the single vote belongs to Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown, who has disappointed many in the GOP with his RINO-like votes since getting into office. The Associated Press reports a coalition of left-wing educators, religious leaders and advocates are making last-ditch efforts to pressure Brown into voting for the legislation.

The bill also contains the line allowing Janet Napolitano to arbitrarily waive any and all provisions and grant mass Amnesty to about every illegal alien in America if she or her successor wants to:

Grass-roots conservatives were stunned to hear former House Speaker Newt Gingrich support the two main tenants of the DREAM Act during an interview on the Laura Ingraham Show at the beginning of the month.

The story is being under-reported or being ignored by not only the mainstream media but conservative outlets as well, as focus on the Wikileaks Cablegate scandal and political drama surrounding the Bush tax cuts takes center stage.

If they pass this, we need more than a freakin' third party. We need a bloody civil war!

Way overdue.

It was a given that Brown was only slightly to the right of Kennedy when you sent your donation to him.

This blog makes no sense. The Dems have 59 votes. At least 3 Dems are voting agaiunst it, and Snowe, Bennett, Hutchison, Cornyn and Brown have said they will vote no. Lugar is the only confirmed yes vote among Republicans. The key votes will be Voinovich, Sam Brownback (yes, he just got elected KS Gov., but is notoriously pro-amnesty due to his horrible misreading of scripture) and Murkowski. They have 56 votes. they need 4.

You are right ...I am shocked at the provision for an appointed person to declare amnesty without the congress..... hey they are making themselves irrelevant, don’t they get that ?

Agreed. If we are this close to having this crap passed, we are sitting on the edge of the razor. Sure, people can blame Scott Brown, and I wouldn’t blame them, but there is a bigger problem if our entire Senate can produce enough votes to pass it.

It is indicative of a deeper, more serious problem than a single RINO.

I’m concerned that folks like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity have been avoiding this issue lately. These guys need to start getting more aggressive in opposing this nightmare.

When I gave to him, he was better than Martha Coakley.

Or would you prefer Martha?

This is one of those things that if passed will be woefully underfunded. The RATs lerned nothing from the last election. If Brown votes yes then it’s over for him.

“The bill also contains the line allowing Janet Napolitano to arbitrarily waive any and all provisions and grant mass Amnesty to about every illegal alien in America if she or her successor wants to”

If this particular part of the news story is correct, the bill should be voted down on that provision alone.

You are still buying into the nonsense that a Liberal Republican is different from a Liberal Democrat? They are termites in the GOP that wreck any hope for a two party sytem.
