Tonight! Conservative group to protest Berkeley celebrating (alleged) Wikileaks leaker

Alert the local TV news crews, because here's an early Christmas present, Visuals Division: A conservative group -- with links to the Tea Party -- will be in Berkeley Tuesday night to protest its City Council thinking of celebrating the Army private accused of leaking the WikiLeaks documents.

As Comrade Jones told us, Berkeley's Peace and Justice Commission (yes, yes, we know, "sooo Berkeley") recommended the city pass a resolution lauding Private Bradley Manning "for his courage in bringing the truth to the American people and the people of the world."

That is the same commission that called the U.S. Marine Corps "unwanted intruders" in 2008 for opening a recruiting station in town.

Swooping into Berkeley tonight will be the faithful from Move America Forward, a conservative organization founded by Melanie Morgan, the former KSFO morning show co-host and Tea Party activist. Natch, they're unhappy about this.

"If Manning did indeed leak thousands of sensitive documents to Wikileaks, then he has directly endangered the lives of American troops, and he is a TRAITOR, NOT a HERO!" said Move America Forward's Danny Gonzalez. He'll be in Berkeley tonight, carting a bunch of petition signatures against the Manning love.

Into the heart of the beast, the third-world people’s republic of Bezerkeley.

Good of you to mention the sordid meeting adjourned by a bunch of very wimpy council members who nodded in agreement to the need for “transparency” in the federal govt. Yes these simple minded rights seekers thought that they justly should have state secrets and that Manning is even being “tortured” in solitary confinement. All this lead by the feeble speaking left over 60’s long-white-haired hippy and SDS’er Meola. Look up the youtubes on him. He now proudly associated as leader of what is now the MDS (movement for a ‘democratic’ society). The media selectively continues to not mention that association to Ayres and Obama. That’s what they consider growing up in Berkeley, I gather.

Yes, I was there. I work nearby and could not avoid dropping in to see what the self-proclaimed “peace and just committee” was up to inspiring international news. Yes, I can just imagine all their anarchist, socialist, communist and jihadist friends must be just dancing in the streets with happiness that Berkeley has a chance to lead the way to submission, I mean islamofascism.

The kids actually think they support the troops by opening information about the “gross injustice of the US war machine ... killing innocent people across the globe”. Yada, yada. No mention of 9-11 here and what it means, no.

I like how the chamber was some kind of schoolroom, filled with the old wooden desks that also came out of the 50’s or 60’s just like the majority, (not all) of the Manning supporters. Yes, children, peace is good.

Overall it was a sad display but did have at least 3 people speak up against it.

I’m one of those people who believe the world would be a better place if California broke off, floated away, and SF sank into the ocean.

Then you wouldn’t have FR any more.

Nevada or Arizona....might not be a bad idea even “if” Cali doesn’t float away and sink into the Pacific.

It’s pretty sad. I live in Cali but it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if the SJ Valley suddenly became oceanfront property.

I understand. I don’t feel like an American anymore. I didn’t move, the country did.
