The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that Ireland has failed to properly implement the constitutional right to abortion where a woman is entitled to one where her life is at risk.

"We, the people of Ireland, humbly acknowledging all our obligations to our Divine Lord, Jesus Christ, Who sustained our fathers through centuries of trial,
"Gratefully remembering their heroic and unremitting struggle to regain the rightful independence of our Nation, And seeking to promote the common good, with due observance of Prudence, Justice and Charity, so that the dignity and freedom of the individual may be assured, true social order attained, the unity of our country restored, and concord established with other nations,
"Do hereby adopt, enact, and give to ourselves this Constitution."
- Preamble to the Irish Constitution
To revise my own post - the EU also confirmed in the ruling that there is no “right” to have an abortion at all... so technically Ireland doesn’t have to even leave the EU to ban abortion altogether.
All it has to do is make its mind up. Either Irish law is against all abortions and should change the law to that effect, or it should stand by the law as it stands and let its clinicians and patients make the call.
The status quo is just stupid... clinicians told they can’t, patients told they can.
I hope you are right. We also recall that they never “really” voted positively for the Euro constitution.
We´ve had “People´s democracies” (You can vote for anyone as long as they´re communists), and now another “democracy” innovation is here: “Eurodemocracy” (You can vote any way you like, but we´ll nullify your vote until you vote Correctly)...
Who said history was over?
