European court overrules Irish Constitution

The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that Ireland has failed to properly implement the constitutional right to abortion where a woman is entitled to one where her life is at risk.

This will kick up a real sh*tstorm. Irish politicians repeatedly promised their electorate that this wouldn´t happen ahead of last year´s referendum. And now - oops - it happened.
Also, this comes right after the EU has humiliated Ireland by forcing them to take a bailout package, even trying to dictate their election cycle(!). Like I said, expect a storm of feces...
I’m not sure that the position the ‘court’ takes is not a majority in Ireland. I think the laws protecting life there are soon going to be on the chopping block anyway, if public opinion has its way. I don’t personally think the voting public in Ireland is especially pro life. But hopefully that’s wrong.
Probably preaching to the choir here, but nevertheless, it cant be said enough times.
Anybody that supports abortion in any way shape or form,does not have The Spirit of Christ within them.
They can go to Church and wave their arms in the air, whatever, but it`s all in vane if that is where their heart is.
Surely that's less of a hassle than changing the Irish Constitution?
The Socialist European Union is in dire need of being broken up and restored to individual Constitutional Republics. The Irish know what’s best for the Irish; not some collection of elitist European pseudo-Monarchs whose only goal is redistribution of wealth to keep themselves in power.
Ireland should sever ties with the EU. Exactly how many years did they seek home-rule before England let them have it? Now they’ve traded their self governance for rule by a bunch of socialists.
Could be. But Ireland was running at a whooping 4% atheist in 2005, while 73 percent of the population considered “Protecting the dignity of any human unborn life” to be “Very important”, a number far higher than the EU average.

Add to this that even secularists and pro-abortion people in Ireland will feel that this is yet another case of the EU trampling the sovereignty of Ireland (The third or fourth such instance in a short period of time), and I think the issue will have salience.
Oh, I should add that the current Irish government is running a whooping 90 percent DISapproval rating. (Yes, really) Makes Obama look like Lincoln by comparison.
There is a whole lot of discontent with the powers that be brewing in Ireland right now.

Just more fodder for dissolving the E.U.
If the E.U. were interested in “Human Rights”, they would protect the baby.
The Catholic Church has much to atone for but so do the people of Ireland for turning their backs on faith while the Celtic Tiger roared.
There’s been a dearth of humility and rebellion in the Republic of Ireland. What a shame it would be if Gerry Adams capitalizes on this and actually succeeds in attaining office in the south.

How in the world is protecting children from murder a violation of human rights?
The knots that those who are pro-abortion twist their brains into to try to promote abortion as something good must leave them with constant migraines. And then, because of the pain, they are unable to think...
If the Irish don't want elective abortion, then they can keep the law as it currently stands. If they don't want abortion for clinical reasons either then they should get out of the EU and change their own laws. But what the Irish government can't do is accept a form of abortion as being lawful AND STILL leave doctors in a position where they cannot consider using it. That is the sum total of what this new ruling means.
If a doctor said to a woman "you can't have an abortion" and she had a MEDICAL reason to consider having one AND she had a legal right to consider that option, then what would be your opinion on the doctor's actions? Justifiable, perhaps. But, what if it was the Federal Government that told the doctor to say it?
According to the Daily Mail, the clinicians agreed that this scenario might apply in her specific situation BUT they wouldn't authorize an abortion. Irish Law ALREADY gave her the right to make an informed decision but it didn't allow the clinicians to advise her properly. Therefore she was unable to exercise her RIGHT to make an informed decision.
The Republic of Ireland has since 1992 conceded that abortions may be lawful if AND ONLY IF both the mother's life and the life of the infant are at a verifiable and severe risk - presumably on the basis that preventing one death is better than allowing two. On that basis alone, the Irish government has no business telling doctors or patients that they are not allowed to make that call.
I am as pro-life as anyone else here, but I'd be a damned hypocrite if I said politicians should be able to throw their own laws and their own constitutional obligations to one side to the extent that they can overrule doctors on clinical decision making in individual cases. If politicians want to stand by a moral argument then they should debate it in session, and pass laws to defend it. Not pass laws one way and then break them in the other direction.
