As American commanders meet this week for the Afghanistan review, Obama is hiring military contractors at a rate that would make Bush blush.

This guy is about to be engulfed in helicopter dust.
I hate it when that happens.
How else can we follow the path of Rome?
Sh*thooks have a way of messing up a nice hairdo.
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
I hate how these guys are portrayed. They are American heros as surely as any other soldier. They all have military experience,,most in very elite units, doing extremely dangerous things. These “mercenaries” are our sons.
They SHOULD be paid the rates they get for what they do. Ill support our Blackwater (or whatever they are called now) guys getting 150k and up for their above high-level skill sets, because thats the market wage to attract them back.
1) I never see them work for the other side,, so it’s not just them being “mercenaries”, up for the highest bidder.
2) Soldiers are only revered if they bear extreme risks for the standard military pay scale, for patriotism ya know. But do you see a Lockheed exec, etc,,expected to work at an artifically low pay scale because it’s for the country? Do you see senators even refuse pay raises and donate it to wounded warriors?
Interesting, lots of “patriots” expect soldiers to do it for love of country,, just don’t expect the oligarchy to take a penny less than they possibly can, out of patriotism.
I wonder how many of these Afganistan-bound mercenaries are out-of-the-closet homosexuals?
I wonder how many of these Afganistan-bound mercenaries are out-of-the-closet homosexuals
I’d make a wild-eyed guess that it’s darn near ZERO ...
Remember how the Liberal Left whined ENDLESSLY about using mercenaries under Bush?
I wonder where that faked outrage is now??
I think now it will be claimed as creating jobs.
Somewhere between few and none, I'd wager.
I don’t doubt their patriotism nor question their pay.
I just don’t think we belong in A-stan.(nor can we afford it even if we did belong there)
No amount of ‘mercs’ or whatever you want to call them will solve warring between dozens and dozens of various tribes.
Bingo.
It's also cost-effective. It's cheaper to pay a contractor a 6 figure salary than it is to put an E-1 Private on the ground.
On his very first day on the job, that Private costs us millions once you figure training costs, medical, dental, housing, food, VA benefits etc. for him AND his entire family if he's married.
Not to mention the fact that Big Army Joe Snuffy simply can't perform many of these specialized jobs - even if we wanted him to. That, of course, is not any reflection of his abilities, there's just no MOS for many such nuanced operations.
Yup...and we don’t care if he EVER ‘asks’, ‘tells’ or even thinks about it!!!
Well Saudi money is all through the 6 US TV networks> All of TV and Hollywood support the islamist including Al Waleed’s Fox.
Good thing we can’t drill here -is the EPA run by the Saudis?
Having been there and done that I can confirm they cannot do many of the “refined” tasks - as opposed to warfare. In fact I asked to be repatriated when I found this out in a very dangerous fashion AND discovered the high pay was not paid monthly as “salary” but as high back-end bonuses at the end of two years, so the actual pay was about $4,000 a month for a daily life threatening activity.
If you got killed your death benefit was a total of $40,000 to your heirs!
Lots of other mind boggling stupid stuff but that’s why we are writing a book.
I would be environmental groups are backed by Saudi money. They own DC, London and other western capitals. The have the best law firms in DC and London on retainer.
The Dems keep putting petroleum, nat gas and coal filled lands on Federal Land to keep us energy serfs to the Saudis.
Americans have no clue what is going on. The havoc Pelosi , Reid and Obama are doing between now and the end of January means the 2010 elections were pretty meaningless.
