Toomey to Support Don’t Ask / Don’t Tell Repeal
NRO ^ | 12/16/2010 | Daniel Foster

Posted on 12/16/2010 11:42:12 AM PST by OldDeckHand

Senator-Elect Pat Toomey has just issued a statement supporting repeal of “Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell.”

“As I’ve said previously, my highest priority is to have the policy that best enables our armed services to do their job,” Senator-Elect Toomey said. “Our civilian and professional military leadership have now spoken and said we should repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. I would support a free-standing measure to do so.”

If Majority Leader Reid keeps his word, the freestanding repeal measure passed by the House yesterday will be voted on in the Senate in the lame duck, before Sen.-Elect Toomey is seated. Still, the support of a credible conservative like Toomey is a sure sign that repeal is likely to pass.

Seriously, this is like a slap in the face to all PA conservatives. I feel like I have been sucker punched.

And you think it won’t?

-no. Just a feeling -the leftist seem quite excited about this, the media publishes only one side of the story, and homosexual agenda trolls are falling like flies...

I do not see the assuredness of victory -I see DESPERATION...

Regardless, passing "it" means nothing -there are many requirements involved before implementation is even considered... Truth ALWAYS eventually wins out and with each passing day the lefts grows weaker and conservatives grow stronger...

I can’t get too angry at Toomey or Scott Brown. Rick Santorum was clobbered when he lost his election. Rick was a purist and look what happened. Massachusetts is hopelessly liberal and PA is a purple state at best. Toomey does not want the gay lobby going after him. He barely won his election.

I wonder how many more newly elected people will betray us?

I would imagine there are more.

Seems we are running out of time thinking all this constant living nightmare can be erased at the ballot box.

Very sad.

Obviously another lying Republican.

A dime a dozen these days.

The Republican Party is dead...they just don’t know it yet.

Well, look who’s having his cake and eating it too.

He’s not voting for or against the measure, just claiming he would vote for it, were he already in office.

I should also add that this is a perfect example of how I no longer trust these so-called conservatives that speak of ‘truce’ on social issues for the sake of fiscal issues. Every damn time, they turn out to be degenerate scumbags. Toomey can go rot in hell, where he belongs.

Why did Toomey have to say anything?

LOL -yup that is odd. Its almost as if someone asked him and publishes his answer as soon as possible. Maybe they are asking everyone and their brother? oddly only the supposed "yes" votes even form those not in office are published. ITS AS IF someone is creating an air of inevitability... Hmmm...

And here on FR we see the news created posted just as quickly as its created -how very odd these psotings...

They all act like it’s normal behavior. How do they even pass the psych tests to gain entrance into the military? Wouldn’t that be an issue?

Actually, he signaled this during one of the debates:

Pat Toomey, Joe Sestak agree on repeal of 'don't ask, don't tell' (October 15, 2010)

He hasn’t been seated yet. I am going to call his office and see why he thinks this is a good idea. I think if enough of his new constituents do the same we can at least rattle his cage and let him know this BS is unacceptable.

This is the only thing I see to contact him. I see no office set up yet.

TEA PARTY PLATFORM SAYS NOTHING ABOUT DON’T ASK DON’T TELL...that is ALL in your imagination. Tea Party activists said right from the start they are not Republicans nor Demcorats, and that was precisely to steer away from these social issues that historically tear us apart.

The Tea Party is about GOVERNMENT INTRUSION and SPENDING. If that’s not your priority issues, fine, but don’t blame the tea party for your misunderstanding of it.

"I wonder how many more newly elected people will betray us?"

Not intended as any kind of defense of Toomey, but....I wonder if a Lexis/Nexis search was done, would any comments about DADT from Toomey show up in the last election cycle. Did he ever talk about it? Was he ever asked his opinion about it?

It's possible (although I don't think likely) that PA was in such a bad place economically, that none of the social issues were discussed in any of Toomey's town-halls or debates, to include this social issue.

I just wonder if this directly contradicts anything he previously states on this subject.

Toomey is no conservative.

Without an agenda, an honest person can see serious flaws in the methodology and interpretation of the survey conducted by the military of its personnel.

I don’t have time to list all the reasons why open homosexuality is a detriment to combat victory, but Toomey isn’t stupid. He’s just choosing to ignore truth for some personal or political gain.

And just because Mike Mullen & Gates have decided gay is fine in the military, how many generals and secdefs in the past have been found to be incompetent on the battlefield.

The truth is that Adm Mullen has never been fired on in anger that I can tell.

His Vietnam Unit citation award is an “I was there” award:

“The Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm was issued to every Allied nation which provided military support to Vietnam between 1 March 1961 and the fall of Saigon in April 1975. The unit decoration thus became the most commonly awarded Vietnamese decoration to foreigners, second only to the Vietnam Campaign Medal.”

There is no active combat award for valor in his resume that I can find.

So, how long after first contact before he is replaced? Think: General McClellan.

Did they poll the REMFs or the guys on the front lines?
(the ones that actually fight the wars and win the Medal of Honor)

Since there are far more REMFs than grunts, it would seem results would be slanted toward favor of passing DADT.

"Actually, he signaled this during one of the debates: "

You answered my question before I even asked it. I don't remember that story, and I watched that race fairly closely. Searching FR archives, it doesn't appear it was posted here.

You would have thought that would have raised some eyebrows from conservatives, but apparently not - until now.
