Toomey to Support Don’t Ask / Don’t Tell Repeal
NRO ^ | 12/16/2010 | Daniel Foster

Posted on 12/16/2010 11:42:12 AM PST by OldDeckHand

Senator-Elect Pat Toomey has just issued a statement supporting repeal of “Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell.”

“As I’ve said previously, my highest priority is to have the policy that best enables our armed services to do their job,” Senator-Elect Toomey said. “Our civilian and professional military leadership have now spoken and said we should repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. I would support a free-standing measure to do so.”

If Majority Leader Reid keeps his word, the freestanding repeal measure passed by the House yesterday will be voted on in the Senate in the lame duck, before Sen.-Elect Toomey is seated. Still, the support of a credible conservative like Toomey is a sure sign that repeal is likely to pass.

This is all riding on the military now.

If these surveys (which are hard to believe) show the men don't mind it there is no way to fight effectively against it.

If that’s not your priority issues, fine, but don’t blame the tea party for your misunderstanding of it.

I agree with the poster. I am one of the Tea Party and I am quite sure I understand exactly what I want...

There is no spokeseman for the Tea Party nor are there limits on what it can do -that is your imagination at work...

I read an analysis of the poll (sorry, I don’t recall where) that contended that it was constructed with approval in mind and also brought up this fact about the disparate numbers of REMF’s vs. “In country” soldiers.

I admit that it may just be my wanting it to be correct that drives my bias, but I do believe this to be the case - members of the military administration skewed the poll in order to obtain the cover that they needed to effect this change in policy.

Back-stab.

He can join that “other guy” from Massachusetts.

The ONLY thing RINOs understand is getting flushed out of office in a primary.

"The truth is that Adm Mullen has never been fired on in anger that I can tell."

He does not wear the Combat Action Ribbon. I know. When I met him a couple years ago, I looked for it. It wasn't there.

I am disappointed that no Republican Congressman/Senator asked either Mullen or Gates about the "collateral damages" that will surely come from this decision.

What happens when the ship's captain wants to wear a daring black cocktail dress to mess night, rather than his dress whites?

Since we're letting in homos, how about the so-called transgendered? Can "female" members who are trapped inside the body of a man, then decide to berth and bath with the females?

ALL of this will come up. And, if we have district court judges willing to litigate the first issue, they'll certainly be other issues - like the few I've mentioned - that will be litigated as well. This will be a mess of unimaginable proportions.

And the leftist who wrote this is one of the ever growing cast of moderates populating National Review Online. I am getting so tired NRO, constantly muddying up the conservative message.

It’s not the “betray us” that torques me as much as the betrayal of the military.

And moving us another step towards compulsory draft.

Fortunately Toomey doesn’t get to vote on this unless it is pushed into next year. Then he will be a member of a minority of Republicans who would vote on it. The new House would defeat it and Toomey’s vote would not matter. That said, Toomey attended many Tea Party events during his campaign and won their support. No he is showing that he has some RINO tendencies. Will he go the way of a McCain? He is going to have to be watched.

I’ve been wondering when the newly elected GOP Senators would stand up and comment on what the current crop of RINO Senators is enabling during this lame duck. Unfortunately, Toomey is the first guy I’ve heard a peep out of and it’s this. Pathetic. What does Rand Paul think?

What stuns me, is the idiocy of Toomey (who isn’t voting on DADT) even discussing it or answering any question about it.

How pandering of him...not a good start by any stretch!

I would agree with your thoughts on a skewed poll. There are Libs in the military brass that want this. Just look a Sestak. Military hierarchy that is a died in the wool commie.

Only problem is the poll was done and gave everyone cover. They can pull this out and most rational people will want to give the military what they want.

Toomey is not that out of step with the thought of many PA’ers. This was a loser to fight in a formerly very blue state during the election. Fiscal policy drug him across the finish line.

“It’s time to replace the Republican Party.”

Spitting in the face of America and thumbing their noses after a Nov 2 sweep. I am done with the Republican brand name. No more R pulls on the levers. I gave money to DeMint’s Senate Conservatives Fund, which Toomey was a part of! I am voting Libertarian or Constitution party, and my donations precede!

TO SCF: I gave a contribution to the SCF in 2010, which gave my money to Pat Toomey amongst the “conservative candidates”. This A-hole is now supporting repeal of DADT? I want my freakin’ money back! You REPUBLICANS can go screw yourselves before you get another donation from me! DeMint, you are backing BAD RINOs backstabbers!

So it is not a government intrusion to be told that you have no choice but to bunk and to shower with someone who openly pronounces a perversion for the same gender? The entire left-wing homosexual agenda is to force their perverted morality on us and our children.

The TEA party is about restoring Constitutional representative government. The homosexual agenda is about subverting the right of the people to representation on issues of how the public deal with sexuality and about ignoring the Constitutional rights of anyone who opposes their agenda.
