This is speculation, but I'd bet that the wealthy are stockpiling. Freeze dried foods are many times more expensive than ordinary dried foods like rice, pasta, grain, etc. Who can afford to stockpile freeze dried foods in large quantities? The wealthy.
P.S. I'm not interested in debating the meaning of "wealthy." My point is that monied persons, who are presumably better educated, probably see danger on the horizon. It's not just us poor crazies anymore.
