NEW ORLEANS, (AP) -- The Coast Guard admiral overseeing cleanup of the BP oil spill says extensive sampling of the Gulf of Mexico seafloor has found oil in quantities too small to merit collection.
The Coast Guard's findings to be released in a report Friday are in contrast to reports from independent scientists who say oil has extensively damaged the seafloor.
"We are not finding any recoverable amounts of oil," Rear Adm. Paul Zukunft told The Associated Press. "We are finding traces of oil."

Wanna bet this Rear Admiral is commanding a garbage scow next week?
These damn scientists are looking for grant money....That’s all this is about.
Everybody knows Big Oil synthesizes it from baby seals, dioxin and thalidomide.
Having been involved with CG in these situations, I can assure you what they say and what’s actual are more often not the same.
Oh, so we can drill now?
Sounds like how they refer to the amount of crime and corruption in DC.
I was always suspicious of the apocalyptic visions pushed by the media. Their breathless doom and gloom reporting caused more economic damage than the oil itself.
The sad thing is, you never know who is telling the truth now. Scientists have killed their credibility. The government is at least as likely to lie to us as the spokesman from a big “evil” corporation. Haven’t been able to trust but a handful of politicians in my lifetime. Everybody in the public arena, in some form or another, is trying to steal from somebody else. Sad . . . very sad.
Oh No! Just think what a disaster it would be if some oil was spilled in the pristine Gulf waters. Nope. It is just too risky.
Male Bovine Excrement!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, I dunno. I think Adm. Zukunft is a man of the Future.

Anyone who believes this is gullible to the MAX. You should watch some scientific documentaries. Not only on this spill but on the one in Alaska many years ago where the oil can still be found there. Think about it people. Does this really make sense(remember when Prof. Falkin asked that question in the movie war games). Oh well...believe what you want.
The oil still under rocks on beaches in Prince William Sound isn’t “recoverable” either. I’m not sure why this report is so hard to believe. There’s not much oil down there. It’s good news.
That's a pretty nasty slander of a whole lot of very honorable people and an honorable service.
If anyone cares about that anymore.
Another telling "insight" from our new member de:m
de.rm, you are on the wrong forum.
DU and Kos share your "truths".
Having *actually* been involved in the Coast Guard, I know and understand that you’re just talking out your @ss. The Coast Guard is a fine, overworked and underappreciated service with some of the finest people I’ve had the privilege to know.
I here you, many good Indiana's never see tricks Chiefer & witch doctor up to.
It’s precisely what happened to the oil from the Ixtoc spill; it dissolved eventually and there was no trace. This is not surprising at all.
