Custer also had his “last stand”.
Probably not a good example, Custer wasn't too bright at the end. When your scouts are telling you that you're heavily outnumbered, and when other evidence points to you being outnumbered, you probably should go ahead and accept that offer of Gatling guns and another battalion of cavalry that your commanding officer is offering you.
Besides, we're the Indians these days - the government wants to control our land and change our way of life, and they'll ride all over us to do it.
