I acknowledge all of those points and they need to be addressed. I think Jim’s intent was that the new PAC would be completely separate from FR. FR would not host the PAC’s web site.

Here’s an idea I had:

Good idea for the next thread:

Folks list how they can help, what they can do, and I’ll add it next to their name on the list.

Then, given that, when something gets decided we can ping the people with the appropriate skills / willingness to address it.

This is how I assigned work teams back when I worked at Atlas, close enough.
Worked pretty well.

I think we can agree social conservative issues should be at the forefront

Are you sure about that? We would lose a lot of the libertarians that are very involved in Free Republic. It is only an idea, but the issues that seem to be universal are the attacks on our constitution, banking system, medical system, and military. One might even get a fight on the banking system from some quarters.

Isn't the number one job of conservatives at this moment to force the repeal of Obamacare?

It's all open for debate. If we are concerned about alienating libertarians from donating then we can make the mission statement broader and general.

http://www.republicanliberty.org/PAC/rlc_mission.htm

As Nachum mentions, and I concur, being Jewish and more aligned with (small L) libertarian activism than the variety of intermountain West and Deep South social conservatism of many on FR....

And if the mission statement is any broader, how different from the RLC PAC will FR PAC really be?

Economies of scale become an issue as stated above, the regulatory and bureaucratic barriers to entry require a large start-up fund when their isn’t a corporate backer for a PAC.

regards,

Yes, repealing ObamaCare is a primary objective of conservatives, but I didn’t understand that to be the goal of FRPAC. As I understood the idea, Jim wanted to organize to target RINOs and get them out of office.

I hope he’ll comment soon.

That is an easily understood mission. If that is all we are limited to, that would be enough.

I think there are a few fundamental positions that should not be compromised even if it potentially may alienate the little 'l' libertarians.

Pro-life, pro-gun and pro-marriage (defined strictly as between a man and woman) are key tenets in my opinion. They are among the non-negotiable items set forth in Jim's founding statement. Yes, by definition there will be give and take on certain issues that might rankle we Social Conservatives. At the same time, the FReeper PAC ought to take measures very early to avoid big-tent "Log Cabinism".

All IMHO and with due respect to those with tenure here who have fought the good fight year after year.

His list began with:

We need to make a list of known RINOs and start an all out effort to get RINOs Collins, Snowe, Brown, Kirk, Voinovich, Murkowski, Burr, Ensign, Graham, McCain, et al, booted from the U.S. Senate as their terms come up in 2012, 2014, 2016, etc.

It’s open season on RINOs!! No bag limit!!

Rebellion is brewing!!

As I understood the idea, Jim wanted to organize to target RINOs and get them out of office.

He also stated that FReeperPAC is to "...to support and elect True God and Country Conservatives™."

Those objectives are quite clear and succinct. If a laser-like focus is maintained on achieving those goals, FreeperPAC can be a very positive force in upcoming elections.

Some details, of course, need clarification to avoid ambiguity:

Just what is a RINO? Is there any wiggle room in the definition? Do the same standards of RINO traits applicable in Texas or Alabama (as noted upthread) fit for candidates in New Jersey or California?

As for the characteristics of a "God and Country Conservative": Would an agnostic who otherwise fully respects the Judeo-Christian foundations of America be worthy of FReeperPAC's support?

IMHO? Yes. An agnostic who acknowledges that this country was founded on such principles and has a record of voting against legislation that seeks to degrade those principles is worthy of our support.

The goal is to take out the RINOs. If that means supporting such an agnostic, so be it.

Flame away! (*cringes*)

I'm going to offer a point for debate. Old-timers, feel free to slap me around.

If we decide to form a PAC, we would do so first at the national level. As the PAC project progresses (gains influence, obtains some success,) we would then form PACs in all 57 states. IMO, the state-level PACs should define the traits of a RINO for their membership/donors. But to get us started on the national/federal PAC, Jim has suggested a list of RINOs. That list will keep us focused and busy through 2014.

Agree? Disagree?

Back in the early days, FR was quite active in grass-roots activities such as counter-protesting liberal events (anti-war protests, illegal immigration rallies, Cindy Sheehan circuses, even the Oscars, etc.), staging major rallies during the 2000 election fiasco and other methods of ensuring that conservative voices were heard. That has fallen off drastically over the past few years.

Those were some great days and times for conservatives to come together and enjoy doing something important and worthwhile.. I don't know if you were a part of these rallies/protests this far back but you and some of the other old timers around here will appreciate these shots below anyway. I have many more.

FReep Meet at the Galleria Mall December 02, 2000

I'll work on putting up some of the many images on my server of some of these type of events that I was proud to be a part of back then in the Houston area and around the state. They span a few of those years. Remember and enjoy.
