The next logical step is for scientists to discover that recent immigrants feel less self-assured in a room with Amerindian, European and African Americans whose forebearers have been here for centuries. Then they can recommend that those people should be eliminated.

Something about “can’t we just celebrate people?”

Simply respond to her that we ARE celebrating people. Christ the child's birth. He was a "people".

no one can make you feel excluded or bad about yourself without your permission or it goes something like that. I don’t feel excluded on Cinco De Mayo, nor on Columbus Day, Nor on St. Patrick’s Day and so on...I just enjoy everything around me and taste all the foods. If I felt excluded I wouldn’t go to the celebrations in the first place so...that’s the attitude everyone should take if they don’t like Christmas Trees and then stop their old hat whining! No one is twisting their arms to put up a tree or even LOOK at one if they choose not to. So silly. So downright silly. There’s way too much attentiion brought to these kinds of things...Ignore and then
Enjoy your Christmas trees and forget those who wallow in misery.

Researchers at Simon Fraser University in Canada, found non-Christians feel less self-assured and have fewer positive feelings if a Christmas tree was in the room.

This has to be one of the saddest, and SADISTIC things I've EVER read!

I'm sure I will BOO HOO HOO for HOURS now!

Just WAIT until those left out folks come face-to-face with JESUS!

A 12 INCH Christmas tree made them feel excluded? What a bunch of whiners.

They are free to join up.

When are we going to start pointing out that Christmas trees have nothing to do with Christmas. It’s not like all of Christ’s followers said “A Saviour has been born! Let’s light up a tree!”

Nor did they say “He has rison! Let’s hide all the eggs.”

Raised Methodist, and occasionally go to Mass with my Catholic wife, but have practiced a blend of Shaivite Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism with deep devotion for over 25 years: this scientist, studying a sample of one, myself, thinks this study is nonsense, and, even if true, irrelevant. Most Westerners who transitioned to Eastern religions for what ever reason (and many are cultural rather than religious) did it as a rebellious rejection of Western values and their own heritage. They excluded themselves, and purposefully so. (See my Amazon.com review/rant from 2004 under screen name “grouper52” for the book, “Shoes Outside the Door.” :)

As for the immigrants, they came to this land to live, knowing it was predominantly Christian, and that Christmas was a major holiday: what did they expect?

I guess be grateful you are speaking of an lib-in-law rather than a spouse or child. The whole world makes a career of fault-finding or things to play the victim over.

Christians, however, did report feeling more guilt when a tree was in the room, which, claim the researchers, suggests the holidays can be stressful.

What kind of 'christians'?

Mormons?
Jehovah Witnesses?
Unitarians?
Westboro Baptist Church ones?
Gay Presbyterians?

Too damn bad, the exclusion is self generated.

I Timothy 2:3
This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

2 Peter 3
God is not willing that any should perish, but all should come to repentance.

Joshua 24:15
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Being a taxpayer in a sea of tax consumers makes me feel “excluded.”

It reminds me of the athiest who had a painting of Jesus (that had been hung there for 50 years) removed from a hallway, because they thought it was “proselytizing”. If you are getting “messages” from a painting I’d say you have a mental problem.

But I put my Christmas tree outside to INCLUDE them in my holiday.

Luke 14:21-24
21So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.
22And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.
23And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
24For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.
