Cop shoots, kills family dog (Golden Retriever)
ajc.com ^ | 12/20/10 | Alexis Stevens

A Clayton County mother of six said the family dog did what he always did when he saw someone. He barked.

But when "Boomer" started barking and running toward a police officer Saturday morning, the officer shot the dog and killed it, Lawrene King told the AJC Sunday night.

“He’s a golden retriever," King said. "He barks, but he’s never bitten anyone.”

A Clayton County police officer was on foot patrol on North Shore Drive when the dog jumped off a porch and started barking and running toward the officer, Capt. Tina Daniel said. The officer ordered the dog to stop and when it didn't, the officer shot and killed the animal in its yard, Daniel said.

The officer, whose name was not released, was responding to a call reporting a suspicious person, police said.

How do mailmen possibly survive without a gun and shooting dogs on a daily basis?

Who cares?

Good answer slick...You avoid getting your teet caught in the ringer..

You evaded the question...See my tag line.

Good call — “neighbors” in high-crime areas are always honest when it comes to police activity ... the wisdom and impartiality that comes from having several family members in the slammer, I’m sure.

Certainly more credible than some jackbooted dog-murderer, right?

What evidence do you have that this incident occured in a high crime area?

Oh I'm sure even you can strike one of your own vital areas with just one. But being prepared is never a bad idea.

To be honest, it seems the new breed of cops nowadays seem really scared and paranoid...

Considering all of the unConstitutional, unethical, unconscionable laws they are being asked to force upon Citizens... I'd be a bit nervous as well.

That being said, maybe they should just use common sense instead of "just following orders".

Fawn,

Tonight is marked by a lunar eclipse, the winter solstice, and the first time you've ever posted something I agree with.

This is truly a day for rare events.

I have a hard time figuring why the armament-practices of mailmen is relevant enough for you to bring up a half-dozen times. Why does it matter?

You have proof this was a “high-crime” area? Or are you just talking out your ass again?

Isn't that just what the German war criminal would say when he got caught after the war

You are a pain in the posterior

Raw truth and hard questions seem to always elicit reactions such as yours.

The smarts ones just seems to disappear off the thread, but in your case, ya just keep coming back for more...You've been diagnosed with the battered wife syndrome?

Oh, dear God.
They -killed- him?

I’m totally deaf in one ear, myself.
Makes me feel really secure....not.

This is just one of the things you’ll find if you Google “cop kills deaf person” so it’s not too rare.

From post 108 (DJlaysitup was the author, a Georgia resident and Falcon’s fan, from his profile) ...

>> Not to defend the cop much...but Clayton County Ga is about as close to a cesspool of a county you can get here in metro ATL-GA. Their High School has lost accreditation, it is about as coirrupt of a place you can find...and the dog population is probably 90% Pitbull. I would hate to be a cop there.

Not “proof” ... but a resident referring to the area as a “cesspool of a county” and “as corrupt of a place as you can find” is good enough for me. Probably not a particularly LEO-friendly area.

Since I don’t live near Baltimore I will find it easy to heed your sage advice....:)
