Obama Announces Support for UN Resolution Stating 'Indigenous Peoples ...

President Barack Obama, addressing a tribal nations conference at the White House last week, announded that the U.S. government is now supporting the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People, which includes a sweeping declaration that "indigenous peoples" have a right to lands and resources they traditionally occupied or "otherwise used."

"Indigenous peoples have the right to the lands, territories and resources which they have traditionally owned, occupied or otherwise used or acquired," says the U.N. resolution.

The Bush administration had declined to support the resolution.

At the White House Tribal Nations Conference, Obama reminded the group that last year he signed a resolution passed by Congress that “finally” recognizes “the sad and painful chapters in our shared history--a history too often marred by broken promises and grave injustices against the First Americans,” he said.

The president added that “no statement can undo the damage that was done,” but he said the resolution can “help reaffirm the principles that should guide our future.”

How much you want to bet that a silly idea like having to actually prove your tribe once “owned” the land (considering many indian tribes had no concept of property rights and didn’t even believe the land was theirs in the first place) won’t considered?

“So the Jews have the right to the lands, territories, and resources of the lands they have traditionally owned (i.e. Judea, Samaria, Canaan, Palestine, etc.)”

Nah, in the UN’s logic they will call the Palestinians “indigenous” to find a way to force the Israelis out.

I guess this means all whites have to go back to Europe and all blacks have to go back to Africa.

What will Obama do? Which half goes where????

You are repeating a Leftist lie.

Something “Like” this happened via a British officer, Lord Amherst, suggested in 1763 giving certain Indians diseased blankets but this was BEFORE whites had knowledge of germs and viruses. Smallpox was a virus. Knowledge of how one got it and how it spread didn’t come until after the incident you describe.

All that Acadia/Nova Scotia history you are talking about started in 1629.

That's recent stuff. I was talking about Acadia in 1598, and the guys in the rowboat were picked up by Samual Argall (from Jamestown) in 1613.

At the time the first formal year round French settlement was set up at St. Sauveur (in Acadia) Acadia as understood by the French and their partner, King James (and his business associates) included even places in New England and New York PLUS St. Sauveur (Bar Harbor), the Peninsula, and just about everything in the vicinity that wasn't nailed down.

KingJames VI of Scotland and King James I of England were the same guy ~ but he'd been ruling Scotland since mid-century, and relocated to London in 1603. That means he was involved in founding "Nova Scotia" as King of Scotland in 1598, and that had nothing to do with his later additional job as King of England starting in 1603.

This is what always confuses folks ~ King James ~ he played all sides at all times! But he was very interested in whatever wealth could be generated in America.

Remember, his baby daddy was Rene of Anjou's grandson, as was Philip of spain and a lot of other French and Spanish royals and nobles.

For him it was a point of pride that he could do it too!

At one point, l’Acadie was known as the breadbasket for all of North America. Then came the English . . . the only reason I even exist today is because one of my brave ancestors escaped from Fort Beausejour and hid out with his Mi’kmaq relatives in the wilds for years. Kinsmen, we are due for some serious reparations.

Yes, even from the Chinese ~ they took their tiny boats and crossed from Siberia to Alaska right down to almost the present day, geologically speaking.

I think we can do a 'blood quantum" sort of thing on this to figure out who pays and who gets.

I'm gonna' get a lot ~ Cochise, not so much!

I read a few years ago that some Indians in Washington state had found a burial grounds with the oldest known remains of a human there.

They started a campaign to designate the area Indian land, but when the results of scientific examination of the remains was completed it turned out that the remains were Caucasian, not so called “Native American”

That put a damper on their land grab, and the story was buried.

Do they really wanna get into the crap of figuring out what race first set foot in any given place, and then giving that land to anybody of that race?

This is probably part of the way Obama bought Hawaii’s cooperation in allowing his coup. It was right around the time that Fukino made her second announcement that Obama signed a presidential order giving a lot of federal aid to “native Pacific Islanders” including “native Hawaiians”.

We get farther and farther from Martin Luther King Jr’s dream with each passing second. Rather than becoming color-blind we are becoming obsessed with revenge on anybody the wrong color.

My daughter was looking in a book that lists scholarships. She said there were very few that weren’t only for Hispanics or Blacks.

She was applying for a job at Burger King last summer after going online to see their application. I told her she should tell them she’s a Black-Hispanic-Indian lesbian Muslim democrat. She laughed so hard I thought she was going to cry. She never did get hired there but did get hired at a different place and I think she gets a lot of working hours because she’s a hard worker. Imagine that!

The only land any of us have rights to according to this philosophy is Eden.

Or maybe hell.

There is nothing Celtic about Normans or Saxons (most of England is Saxon, while Scotland, Wales, and Ireland are predominantly Celt), and we don’t look alike - we smile.

Scotland would love to have you back; they are recruiting in countries where the Scots have migrated to over the years to get some to move back. Between the economic woes and the climate, they are facing a population crisis; reach out to them.

I wish Kenya would take back their young pirate...
