Barney Frank: Straight and Gay Soldiers Must Shower Together, But Not Men and Women Tuesday, December 21, 2010 By Nicholas Ballasy

(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Barney Frank (D.-Mass.) says he agrees with the recommendation of a Department of Defense (DOD) working group that straight and gay military personnel of the same gender should be required to shower together when the repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law goes into effect.

Frank, however, said Armed Forces personnel of opposite sexes should not shower together.

“What do you think happens in gyms all over America? What do you think happens in the House of Representatives? Of course people shower with homosexuals. What a silly issue. What do you think goes wrong with showering with homosexuals? Do you think the spray makes it catching? I mean people shower with homosexuals in college dormitories, in gyms where people play sports; in gyms elsewhere. It is a complete non-issue. ” Frank told CNSNews.com.

CNSNews.com then asked Frank why he thinks it is a non-issue.

“To accept the principle that homosexuals can’t shower with other people is a degree of discrimination that goes far beyond this. We don’t get ourselves dry cleaned. We tend to take showers when we go to the gym; when we play sports,” he responded.

Rep. Frank continued, “The notion that knowing that someone is gay or lesbian as opposed to knowing that they are gay or lesbian people that have to pretend who they are; that that somehow makes a difference is pretty silly,”

Frank was also asked if he thinks male and female military personnel should be able to shower together.

“No that would disrupt people,” he said.

“Frank, however, said Armed Forces personnel of opposite sexes should not shower together.”

Uh, heteros & homos ARE the opposite sex.

This is gonna get to be quite a problem. To avoid sexual attraction, I recommend:

Hetero men should shower with other hetero men.
Hetero women should shower with other hetero women.
Queer men should shower with queer women.
Bisexuals should shower alone.
Tranies should move from shower to shower as their sexual preference dictates.
All other perverts should shower as a group.

At all times, animal rights should be highly respected.

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

File Sexual Harassment lawsuits...

I don't know whether or not lawsuits are the appropriate legal remedy in the military justice system, but in general I think the idea of criminalizing military "workplace environment" gay sexual harassment is a great idea. In my experience, many gay males can't stop talking about their own sexuality. It is their primary conversation subject. Having worked in an environment where I had to put up with that cr_p, I can imagine the tension it would create in a circumstance where the recipient could not respond appropriately without serious consequences.

The question is, will the military prosecute gay sexual harassment? Or will be gays be treated as untouchable sacred cows, unaccountable for even outrageously offensive behavior?

In my posting, the last paragraph in it was quoting what the person mentioned being in the Marines (post#52). I was never in the service though.

Having it plush, yes, definitely with my current work place !

“communal showering is stupid - it’s like communal crapping.”

You have definitely not been to basic.

It makes a difference. The idea of another guy in the shower with you that you KNOW is interested in the view is extremely offputting.

You ought to be allowed to know, so you can choose whether to be in intimate range of them. That is, they ought to be required to state whether they are gay or bisexual.

Maybe some gays can be completely discrete, politely avert their eyes, and treat their fellow soldiers with dignity in the showers. It's the leering perverts that camp out in the showers, toilets, or saunas with stroking half-swollen hard-ons that create pure hell for the straight soldiers just trying to get done with their business and get out.

And yes, Rep. Frank, these perverts infest communal showers gyms, and recreational facilities through this country. Now they will be emboldened to act even more overtly in the military services.

It's easy to say, "They'll get kicked out." But will they? They'll just deny it, claim the accuser is homophobe, and file a complaint with the EEO office. They won't get kicked out. Their accusers will be.

Hubby has, not me:>)
OK, so there's communal crapping too then - so wonder what Barney has to say about that, or is he just into that showering thing.....

"Seriously, when was the last time anyone here showered with another soldier besides bootcamp"

I don't know about the Army, but at sea that's all there is. Additionally, if you're not attached to the ship and live in barracks ashore, they are all two-man rooms.

How many straight sailors would appreciated an assigned billet sharing a room with an open, practicing homosexual?

Why oh why do they keep electing this freak?

I guess I shouldn’t talk. I’m here in IL and what we have foisted upon the world is absolutely sickening.

What you say is true for the USAF, too. One doesn’t necessarily have luxury accommodations wherever one deploys, even though the USAF generally has better billeting than the Marines. Even in hard billets, i.e. buildings, we’d have to share rooms and bathroom facilities. We also spent time in tents. In those cases, we had shower and latrine tents where you pretty much had to do your business with other men. Sitting in plain sight on the crapper while other men walk by is a bit unsettling. It’s an encouragement to get your business done quickly! LOL.

There’s also a big difference between knowing and not knowing if your bunk and shower mates are gay. If it’s against the rules to reveal one’s sexual orientation, a gay guy is going to hide their feelings. You don’t know if someone is gay, but you know they can’t do anything about it because their career is on the line. Now they can openly discuss their perversity with others of like mind, and us heterosexuals will just have to deal with it? Unless regulations pretty much duplicate DADT, then this shared facilities crap is going to hit the proverbial fan.

“One of the networks said 75 percent of the American people support Barney on this issue.”

I'll comment on that when I've seen the actual poll question and the internals.

To my point, there's no way 75% of Americans would say they are fine with being naked while gay people ogle them. Just wait for the sexual harassment cases that are coming. Tryouts for the Army football team should be interesting next year. "What position do you want to play?" "Tight end!"

Thanks, no, it’s a cormorant. I got them confused at first too. We mostly see anhingas, but occasionally cormorants (which are prettier).
