Potential GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee says Sarah Palin’s wrong and Michelle Obama’s right, at least when it comes to the first lady’s push to combat childhood obesity.
“With all due respect to my colleague and friend Sarah Palin, I think she's misunderstood what Michelle Obama is trying to do,” the former Arkansas governor said Tuesday on the “Curtis Sliwa Show.”

The irony is Huckabee lost weight without the govt getting involved. And he never blamed the govt for getting fat in the first place. If anyone he should know that when it comes to obesity it’s mainly about personal responsiblity. There are some exceptions and various diseases and things where it’s not, but for the most part if you eat right and exercise you won’t get fat. Even if you don’t exercise that much as long as you eat right you won’t get fat.
Gov Palin should trumpet her record in this area. Under her leadership Alaska won back to back titles as the most physically active state in the union in the President’s Physical Fitness Challenge. For some reason after AK won for a second time in 2009 the program was cancelled. Hmm...
Part of this is also typical media overreaction. Palin makes an obviously joking comment(that I probably would have edited out if it were up to me)and the media plays it up into some egregious personal insult.
On the whole though this initiative is pretty harmless. There are way more important things to worry about than Michelle Obama saying a few things about childhood obesity.
Never saw what anyone saw in this guy from the start. Reminds me of a carnival huckster.

And Huck comes out backing Michelle Obama on the dessert issue against Sarah Palin. Again, for all I know, he may be partly tongue-in-cheek on that too, although I remember his interview with Mrs Obama a few months ago in which he complimented her profusely for her stand on children's diet.
Palin had made a joke on her Alaska show when she was handing out treats to the kids, that Michelle might not like this... which led to Huck's remark saying that he sided with Michelle.
And I'm saying (maybe partly tongue-in-cheek), that by backing Michelle against Sarah, he is making himself unelectable. Thats just me; I'm sure he doesn't agree.
Her "diet" involves a lot of running, something the fat and lazy crowd have trouble emulating.

Someone on another thread did the math & said that this program of NObama spending would amount to 6 CENTS more for every meal that is served in the schools.
I cannot in any way shape or form use only 6 CENTS to switch from canned or frozen veggies & fruits to fresh.
I cook the main meal about once a month for a horse riding club when they are competing. I have made sliced ham—turkey—chili-spagetti-baked potatoe bar-chicken thighs—Polish sausages /hot dogs-—lots of different things. The rest of the group brings pot luck to fill out the meal.
I have served as high as 80 riders/crew at a single event. 6 Cents would not change things over to fresh items.
I often make a layered fresh salad for my own contribution to the pot luck. I make it in a large metal bowl. Lettuce-shredded cheese- sliced hard boiled eggs—tomatoes—cucumbers-green bell pepper-red bell pepper-gold bell pepper- yellow bell pepper-red onions—long stem green onions-—frozen corn kernals-—frozen green peas—broccoli—celery—carrots—& whtever else I can find in season.
I have kept track 3 times of all those ingredients to layer into that large bowl. It costs a tick under $30 just for tht one salad. Not even counting the dressing, as that is separate. If everyone takes a fair helping it will work for about 45-50 people and even less if everybody is hungry and really diving into that bowl.
This entire issue is about control——not about being able to serve any fresh ingredients to any kids.

Baloney! Obesity is the same as poverty. Overstated in order to make it an issue which requires government intervention.
Huckabee, Romney, and McCain are all polishing their mushy credentials at a time when we are clammoring for a strong conservative. Good luck with that, Mike.
there used to be a place in Amarillo, Texas that would give you the whole dinner for free if you could eat it & it included everythign plus a 64 ounce steak.
I knew a few drag racers that could do it.
If that place is still open, I can see them turning out the lights & putting up the closed sign if this group came in.
Do they need extra suspension add ons for their cars? What about their mattresses??
Well this just goes to show that Sarah is smarter than the Huckster. She has been living what the Arkansas Huckster just recently caught up on. You don’t chow down every day on fatty foods!

Michelle Obama sees a problem of obesity and turns to the same solution she and her husband choose for every problem in life - more government. She’s already decided to spend a substantial amount of our money to put new salad bars into cafeterias, so that school kids can continue throwing away the rabbit food that will be slapped onto their trays.
Sarah Palin sees a problem of obesity and turns to the same solution she tries first for most problems in life - the family. She’s already filmed several episodes of her show in which she models active parenting. She takes her kids digging for clams, fishing, hiking, camping, and in general keeps them active, outdoors, and engaged in life. You don’t need an ineffective government program to do the job if you have parents who are active with their kids. My guess is that some kids will see the show, ask, “hey, can we do that” and get far more benefit than they get from carrying a heavier school lunch tray to the trash can to toss the salad made by the lowest bidder with ingredients that they probably don’t want.

Huckabee IS a giant nanny stater. He is onboard with denying many rights, and in this instance, looks to govt to do what he and his wife apparently could not do themselves. So what if his family is overweight, that does not mean the govt should control food intake! Get a clue!
Weeeelllll, it's really such a minor thing. You DO know that in nearly every straw poll on the planet (almost, not all I know) the Huckster still comes out on top of everybody from Sarah to Mitt and everybody else. That says a lot. Freepers tend to be waaaaay more conservative (God Bless 'em all) than your run of the mill "Conservative Republican." Hopefully, freepers stand as a force multiplier to make psuedo conservatives more conservative in a more concrete (read gutsy) fashion. But still, all those other folks, they vote.
