“has been steadily poaching New Yorkers “

It’s not poaching when they vote with their feet.

We do have something called a Franchise Tax, here. It’s basically a state income tax for business owners.

“If your town has an equal number of bars and churches, you might live in Upstate New York.”

Yep! 1 bar, 1 church, 1 store. Pop. 2,050. With a median income higher than the State of Texas.
Take away the revenue generated from all the Texas-tea / gas and ya’all wouldn’t be talkin trash right now.

You can spot by the annoying accents. And the rudeness.

And how they complain about the heat, and the lack of a good deli, and the lack of mass transit, etc.

But if you want to make them a might uneasy, you just flash that concealed carry at them and they pipe down real quick like.

Wow, what is with the hating on New Yorkers and North Easterners on this Forum? The last time I checked I am an American just like everybody else. I traveled outside New York,to the South and to Texas, where I encountered a few neanderthals along the way, but I knew not to put everyone in the same pot. I have no hate for the people of the Red States, they were some of the most kind, down to earth people. The one thing I do admire about the people of the South and Texas is that they love Jesus and are not afraid to show it, which I will say Amen to that.

New York State is sitting on top of what could be the largest natural gas field in the world (along with Pennsylvania) but they are too “green” to allow development. What is it that Forrest Gump used to say...?

I am in California and similar comments are made about residents in my state too. Truthfully, I can't blame people. Why on earth would Texans want to see a flood of liberal New Yorkers (or Californians) flood their state and bring their liberal politics with them? There has been a steady exodus of California businesses from our state (ie. wealth producers) and Californians with it. You shouldn't let it bother you so. They're not talking about you.

I pay about the same in property taxes but insurance is about half that much. New York has a state income tax that for me would be 7.375% of $400,000 or $29,500 per year. Oh yeah, I am loading the U-Haul right now.

We’re working on it. Hopefully soon.

Is that why they have three speed limits posted all along the highway. I believe in the German system, one speed limit, fastest in the left lane period.

If you are not a liberal, and would not come to Texas expecting to make it over in the image of New York, then come here and welcome.

We also don't want people telling us how bad/backwards things are here, how we need to change, and how stupid we must be.

I am not a native Texan. I came here from Georgia.

I had a friend there whose husband I could never warm up to. I suppose it was because she once told me that her husband said that "whenever anyone opens their mouth and a Southern accent comes out, he automatically deducts 30 points from their IQ." They were Long Island natives.

I worked at a teaching hospital. A co-worker and her physician husband were from the upper Midwest. She told me once that "the reason we get so many babies here with heart defects is because this is the South and people are so interbred." I was dumbfounded. When I checked that out with another physician, he thought I had lost my mind; he informed me that the incidence of congenital defects was pretty much the same nationwide. Unfortunately the other couple had moved on and I could not correct his misconception.

In either case, I only wish I had had the nerve and presence of mind of a native Texan friend of mine. She had some business dealings with a couple of late-middle-aged "ladies" from Wisconsin. They came down to Texas and, first, informed her that they were from "Progressive" Wisconsin. They then proceeded to find fault with most everything and everyone, including the waiter who made the mistake of asking "And what would you girls like to drink this evening?" My friend was forbearing but finally had enough. She looked them in the eyes and said: "This is TEXAS. People here in Texas are polite and friendly and patient. However, this IS TEXAS. We also like to drink, and fight, and a lot of us carry guns. If y'all continue to criticize and complain about everything and everybody and talk about how much better Wisconsin is, somebody is going to lose patience, take offense, and beat the crap out of the both of you!" They minded their manners considerably better after that.

“At least it wasn't about all the Californians that are coming to Texas :)”

And I thank you for that. There really is bliss in ignorance.

About half of them will go back to where they came from when they go through their first Texas summer, and find out summer can last for 6-8 months.

Let they find out first hand what a turd floater of a rain is, and the fire ants find a nice dry spot in their house.

Better yet, let them find out electric cars don't do real good in water.

LOL. My daughter spent last summer in Plano as counselor in a kids camp. She was very happy to come home from the heat and humidity. It is sort of odd to me, I grew up in the Chicago area. Summers are very humid. Winters are horribly cold. Texas would have been an improvement. :)

Their portion of the country is who elected this incompetent moron and his willing congress and I am supposed to just hold hands and sing “Kumbaya” with them? Not hardly. Their concept of America is about 180 degrees from mine. There are hard-working patriots in every state. They would be received with open arms. The others, they can stay put until they get their mind right.
