Obama Returns to End-of-Life Plan That Caused Stir (Under Cover of Night)
New York Times ^ | 12/25/10 | ROBERT PEAR

Posted on 12/27/2010 1:01:37 PM PST by Robwin

“While we are very happy with the result, we won’t be shouting it from the rooftops because we aren’t out of the woods yet,” Mr. Blumenauer’s office said in an e-mail in early November to people working with him on the issue. “This regulation could be modified or reversed, especially if Republican leaders try to use this small provision to perpetuate the ‘death panel’ myth.”

Moreover, the e-mail said: “We would ask that you not broadcast this accomplishment out to any of your lists, even if they are ‘supporters’ — e-mails can too easily be forwarded.

The e-mail continued: “Thus far, it seems that no press or blogs have discovered it, but we will be keeping a close watch and may be calling on you if we need a rapid, targeted response. The longer this goes unnoticed, the better our chances of keeping it.”

Imposition of a policy already repudiated by the Congress and done by stealth. Obama & Co only agreed to its excision from the original bill so they could get it passed and later impose it by diktat. Not only is this supremely dishonest but it represents the essence of despotism, rule by one person.

Btw, Blumenauer is a Congressman from OR and a very strong proponent of ObamaCare and the death panels. OR Freepers, any chance of getting rid of this low life?

Funny that even though it is all so wonderful, its creators don’t want anyone to KNOW or TALK about it!!!

True the NYT is not to be trusted but in this case it is quoting an email from a death panel supporter who did not want it distributed to the public.

Once in a while I review the Declaration of Independence. I try to slowly absorb the indictments against George III and compare his outrages to those committed by our supposedly representative government of limited, enumerated powers.

As our forefathers resisted tyranny only to secure their God given rights and the rights of Englishmen, we have a similar duty.

Back then, no court system existed to hear our pleas. Street demonstrations followed by riots, and then armed resistance were the only avenues available.

Today we have a court system that long ago largely discarded its duty to help protect our rights. Most of the elites don't see the building political boiler pressure.

One thing I know and the elites had better learn fast, is that government by political will and fiat will never suit Americans.

Yes sireeeeeee, I feel all better now to know that the doctor of death that Obeyme appointed without senate approval is behind this move. He’s just looking out for all of us.

WTF kind of question is “Now honey, if your heart stops again, would you want us to restart it???”

Someone please wake me up. This nightmare doesn’t seem to have an escape hatch.

Just listening to the discussion of Fox News Cavuto on it. I don’t know the guy well but the stand in for Cavuto is Brian Sullivan and either he is one of the best at playing ‘devil’s advocate’ to Republicans or he’s a liberal. He kept making the point that ‘Tea Party people’ would be for individual choice in the matter of end of life but totally misses the fact that it won’t be their choice.

The best proof of this is the President himself during the debates handling ‘Jane’s’ question about her mother that got a pacemaker at 92 and lived another 5 years. Obama suggested ‘take a drug’ instead.

The original "death panel" legislation:

H.R.3200
America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009 (Introduced in House)
------------------------------------------------------------
SEC. 1233. ADVANCE CARE PLANNING CONSULTATION....
`(F)(i) Subject to clause (ii), an explanation of orders regarding life sustaining treatment or similar orders, which shall include--
...
(iii) A program for orders for life sustaining treatment for a States[sic] described in this clause is a program that--
...
(IV) is guided by a coalition of stakeholders includes [sic] representatives from emergency medical services, emergency department physicians or nurses, state long-term care association, state medical association, state surveyors, agency responsible for senior services, state department of health, state hospital association, home health association, state bar association, and state hospice association.
[end of quotation, italics added]

In other words, the "program" is guided, designed and executed by various government-related "stakeholders", which, notably, excludes patients. In practical application, this legislation would give the State the means to encourage, and if necessary inveigle, the elderly to agree to an early grave.

Sounds like a death panel by me, though it's just as accurately described as an "end-of-life panel". In excerpting this, I was surprised that I found two stupid grammatical errors in the text. Apparently they don't grade on grammar at Harvard and Yale.

They are more sneaky and slinky than a bag full of snakes.

Low life bastards should all need health care and be denied it by the death panel that they are forming.

Most of the elites don't see the building political boiler pressure.

When I drove out to CA over the summer, I was surprised by the number of political signs beside the road. There were even billboards. I've never seen anything quite like it. There is a huge anger against the political class, and those in power are completely blind to it.

Mustn't broadcast what the Reich Fuhrer is doing until the enforcement forces of the OSS (Obam Schutzen Staffel) are in place to take the Stats Fiendlisher (Conservatives) into custody to place them in Reich Stalags.

***Low life bastards should all need health care and be denied it by the death panel that they are forming.***

The Veterans Administration routinely asks during routine pre-exams whether the Vet has a “LIVING WILL”. — Can this be translated into “DEATH WISH”?

Are they going to “86” Veterans?

Let's not get overly-focused on the death panel travesty at the expense of what REALLY is horrifying here.....writing a bill, taking out things that the representatives didn't want in, reaching agreement, passing the bill...and then.......

......OBAMA AND HIS SHADOWY UNELECTED ANONYMOUS BUREAUCRATS WRITE THE UNCONSTITUTIONAL RULES AND REGULATIONS BACK INTO THE BILL WITHOUT ANYONE ALLOWED TO VOTE AGAIN!

THE MOST EVIL BAIT-AND-SWITCH JOB IN THE HISTORY OF THIS COUNTRY!

IN THIS BILL THE FASCIST DICTATOR OBAMA HAS NOW MADE THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH AND HIS OWN WILL THE SOLE AND SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND!

THE PEOPLE HAVE HAD THEIR VOICES STOLEN BY THE USURPER FASCIST OCCUPYING THE WHITE HOUSE!

HE MUST BE STOPPED. AMNESTY IS NEXT!
