Ex Shell president sees $5 gas in 2012
CNN/Money ^ | 12/27/10 | Laurie Segall

New York - The former president of Shell Oil, John Hofmeister, says Americans could be paying $5 for a gallon of gasoline by 2012. In an interview with Platt's Energy Week television, Hofmeister predicted gasoline prices will spike as the global demand for oil increases. "I'm predicting actually the worst outcome over the next two years which takes us to 2012 with higher gasoline prices," he said.

You're very right. The factor in this being a tipping point is, like “griswold3” and myself pointed out:

“Cause if fuel goes up to $4, other prices have to increase to offset the input costs rising.”

People will literally not be able to afford to drive to a store and buy skyrocketing priced goods, transport them back to a location and be able to properly store them at $4/$5/gallon of gas.

The socialists want it to go to at least $8.00

They thought they would get it when they created the fake “crisis” in the Carter years.

I lived in Calif then - and saw them deliberately shut down working wells to create the ‘crisis’ and I remember a lib-a*s senator from San Francisco, with a garage full of 11 Mercedes, opined that the little people did not need to be driving wherever they chose - that making gas too expensive would curtail this.

i.e., How to control the populace...the little peopleTHIS is the goal

This will be the end of the ruling elite. If it happens. And it might.

That will certainly be a millstone around Baraq’s neck come election time...

Just the opposite.

I have seen this play many times. It will be blamed on the Republicans and the clamor will be "to bring prices down, put the dems back in charge"

and the media will beat the drums for them.

I really beg to differ.
Even Republicans can pin the tail on this donkey (Baraq).

It was 2.89 when I went out today at the CHEAPEST station here in Memphis. Less than a month ago it was 2.49.

Globalism. Contrary to “free trade” propaganda over the past 3 1/2 years, the Chinese economy has not crashed from our lack of spending. Inflation will continue there, and eventually, inflation here in many other products.

Let the oil prices rise. Tougher, smarter Americans can handle that and will welcome smaller government and replacement of business, political and academic leadership as a result (un-payable debts).

Single SS seniors are the ones that hurt the most, and get the least ‘help’. $10-30 in food stamps and a few measly cans of veggies/fruit for commodities. The number at the commodity line at the community center I quilt at has nearly tripled in the past 18 months. These are the frail ones in wheel chairs, funky walkers and canes barely ably to move. They look like all the life has been sucked out of them.

And the welfare queens beat the frail elderly to the utility assistance program.

"Prepare for death in the streets then.

Anything more than $4/gallon will set the population off, IMHO.
"

But they won't be able to drive very far to go off on anyone else. ;-)

to get control of the food supply..

Just inches away from it.

Over the past 2 years they have systematically enacted controls and regs that have put 3/4 ths of a million truck drivers off the road and thousands of small trucking companies out of business.

They are whittling the trucking companies down to a handful of BIG ones that are playing footsie with the gov't to stay in business.

they have another regulation coming this summer to put more truckers off the road - their target has been/in the independent O/O's.

Once they get it whittled down to a compliant few big boys = they plan to nationalize the industry.

That will be the very day they control food.

Your local supermarkets have enough in the store for ONE DAY! You want to see bedlam? Stop the trucks ONE DAY.

the ages old motto of despots: "He who controls the food, controls the people."

tens of thousands of people across the country can see the handwriting of the despots in DC and are growing gardens, buying land, storing food.

You become able to provide food for your family - and water - or you bend over.

the 'sign" = (a chip?) that you will need for buying, selling, any movement, is not far off on the agenda. The means of implementation/implantation is set to go.

Why are we allowing the Middle East to treat us ...

People who believe this are playing into the hands of the enemy within - sitting in the WH and the halls of congress.

IT is THEY who won't allow us to produce our own energy. It is THEY who make us dependent on foreign oil.

Get mad at THEM

"And a few Freepers made fun of me for riding a bike, owning a moped and driving a Geo Metro...."

Yep. In my area, people don't walk or ride bikes anywhere (except for the tourists). When the locals get bored of television and eating, they drive around, tailgating others (following too closely). It's difficult to believe that they could live through more horizontal growth (sideways hugeness). I reckon we'll be planting a garden and doing more tech. hobby stuff this year.
