Pilot Punished for Video Critical of Airport Security Comes Forward, Won't Back Down

The California airline pilot punished by the Transportation Security Administration for posting videos critical of airport security has revealed his identity.

Chris Liu, who calls himself the "Patriot Pilot," says he was just trying to improve airport security when he released a recorded and posted online footage of San Francisco International Airport in which he criticized a number of procedures.

Liu had been part of a federal security program allowing him to carry a gun in the cockpit. But after he posted the video, federal agents showed up at his house Dec. 2 to confiscate his weapon and suspend his Federal Flight Deck Officer credentials.

Liu originally declined to identify himself in fear of retaliation but says he’s now going public in hopes of changing major security flaws.

I accidentally went through Raleigh/Durham with a full 12 oz bottle of rubbing alcohol in my carryon. They didn’t see it. I nearly cr@pped myself when I opened my travel kit at my destination.

I was just telling hubby that I am sure I break at least one law or regulation at least once a day, maybe more. I have no clue what the law or regulations are anymore since there are so darn many of them.

"Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with."

Begs the question about the harm caused thus far by WikiLeaks.

Have yet to see anything leaked that was not already known or could be easily discovered. A Reichstag fire without the smoking gun. Beck thinks they will use the leaking to grab control of the new media. A slightly more refined approach then their hero Hugo Chavez utilized. Of course Beck has been a little bit paranoid lately, but his paranoia seems to be well founded.

I agree but only in speculation. The only concern I had was the potential for retaliation against innocent folks or groups.

The average American commits not just one, but THREE felonies per day, without knowing anything. There is a book about it, here’s a link (hope that’s not inappropriate).

Three Felonies a Day: How the Feds Target the Innocent

Do not think the leakers care about the innocent. They are expendables. With the corrupt government we currently have, there should be lots of real juice out there. The kind that causes government officials to immediately resign in disgrace. We have not seen one resignation that I recall, as of yet. Been busy however and have not kept up with all the news this month. Yes, they have called for Hillary to resign, but that is exactly what Obama wants. Hillary out of the way. At any rate, back to the airline pilot thread.

But the bast@#$s in both parties are really doing this. It's no joke and you will think that as well when you end up in the pokey.

It’s per his FDO agreement, TSA took the weapon they issued him. I don’t recall anything indicating they took his personal guns.

Thank you, Jaz. I didn't read the full article.

“As for those compact fluorescent bulbs... if you break one of those you might as well abandon your dwelling.”

Maybe someone should break one in the senate and house chambers! I wonder what would happen?

I have not read Mr. Silvergate’s book. I took advantage of the link to Amazon and read the synopsis. I do not believe that the average American commits three felonies a day.

Break an old-fashioned fever thermometer instead. 20 to 30 times the amount of mercury.

I broke at least two of those as a child. That's equivalent to 40 to 60 CFLs.

Where is airport operations on all of this? Are they not responsible for what the pilot is calling weaknesses

The rules are the same whether TSA or a private firm.

I am a Captain for a major US airline. He correctly identified the security holes - every airline pilot in America knows it. We simply have been told to be quiet about it. He is a brave man. The gummint hates the light of truth.

Isn’t that the truth! Our retired chief of police told me over a beer one day that he could follow me down the street for a few blocks and see me do something for which I could be stopped, and I haven’t had a ticket in 20 years.

But, isn’t it also true that to become an FDO, he had to get a security clearance which is why he can’t do what he did?

I’m not entirely clear on what the security holes are that this guy exposed. I saw some doors he claimed went to the flight deck, a friend of mine in aviation said at least one he saw went to the employee break room instead.

Is it the responsiblity of TSA or airport ops to monitor everything the pilot pointed out?

This guy doesn’t feel right to me, personally. Let’s wait & see what he does with his 15 mins & book deal. Call it woman’s intuition.
